Re: Deer Trail Lodge or Red Arrow Lodge

Old postcards of Deer Trail Lodge, as well as other sites, can usually be found on eBay. http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=heafford+junction&_sacat=0&_odkw=%22deer+trail+lodge%22&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313 There is even one currently of the old toboggan run someone mentione...

Recent burglaries in area - be on the watch!

There have been several (at least 3) burglaries in the town of Nokomis area over the past several days, including at a relative's house. The perpetrator(s) ransacked closets, dressers, cupboards, etc, apparently looking for and taking cash and small valuables. The Oneida County Sheriff's department ...

Re: Lake Nokomis Resort History

Pac-man is correct. A Google search for Viking Resort / Nokomis reveals that the Dingels (that's how it's spelled) Viking Resort was located at 12096 N Heafford Rd. I'm not sure of its fate, but many of the area resorts are converting to condominium arrangements... the land and cabins are worth more...

Re: Harley Ride

For over a decade, I have helped at the Fall Ride in a variety of roles. A lot of towns wish they could have an annual event like this, and some towns have successful annual events that are comparable in size and logistics to the Fall Ride. Ones that come to mind are the Warrens Cranberry Fest, Port...

Re: Hey Tomahawk.....What about our Fire Fighters?

Surenough, I did not come here to look for an argument; I was looking for a clarification on your original statement and offered some ideas based on the messages from you and Ladder 49. It seems that I have unintentionally created a sensitive topic of discussion. I think that you and Ladder 49 have ...

Re: Hey Tomahawk.....What about our Fire Fighters?

Ladder 49, there seems to be a disparity between Surenough's statement (over 1000 came to attend classes) and your rephrasing that over 1000 came to the school and festivities, but not all attended classes. What did the ones that came to the school, but not the classes, do both days? There weren't m...

Re: Greed at the fall ride !

Last time I checked, this was still a free country where capitalism is encouraged. Yes, every year there seems to be more and more vendors, both home-grown and imported, and all are scratching to make money at a popular event. Some are successful, some aren't. As long as their efforts are legal (sin...

Re: Hey Tomahawk.....What about our Fire Fighters?

Surenough, you seem to be quite dedicated to making sure that firefighters and other emergency workers get the thanks and attention that they deserve. However, like a lot of other good causes, not everyone feels obligated to give thanks where thanks is due. I admire your efforts, having been a firef...

Re: Dam Rebuilding

The dam feeding Lake Nokomis (Rice Reservoir) is the Willow Reservoir Dam, which is upstream from Nokomis. The dam that creates the Rice Rersvoir is the Bradley Dam. Which are you referring to? If it is the Willow Dam, it would most likely have negligible impact on Lake Nokomis. However, if it is th...

Harbingers of summer....

As far as signs that summer is almost here, perhaps second only to the opening weekend of fishing is the opening of the Windmill, which occured today (May 1). Go ahead, accuse me of shameless self-promotion... I'm stuck down here in Milwaukee and won't be back up north until Memorial Day to have my ...

Re: It`s that time of the year

A quick search of the Internet reveals the following definition(s): "Bubba: that's "Odds Bodkins", actually a euphemism for God's Bodkins, the nails used to attach Jesus to the cross, obviously quite a serious medieval oath. (Though I also see this defined on the Internet as the body ...

Re: Tobacco compliance rate a black eye for Tomahawk

This is off topic, but I find it ironic and slightly disturbing that NetMaster (Don Rogers) would be preaching about community and parental values when he appears to be associated with some of the following content on the web... *** Web site links have been removed by the webmaster because of conten...
