Re: National Geographic
Sorry. It appeared in page 22 of the December issue in a section entitled "Conservation" dealing with what to do with old Xmas trees. The article is not very large, but the mention of a small place like Tomahawk in such a publication is significant. The entire text of the part of the artic...

National Geographic
Tomahawk was mentioned in the December issue of National Geographic in an article dealing with green methods of disposing of used Xmas trees. PCA was mentioned as having a program using the old trees to fire boilers, generating power. Tomahawk makes national news at last...am I the only one who saw ...

Re: Health Plan for Wisconsin
This is an absolute load of baloney for any number of reasons. The first thing that comes to mind is the statement that teachers will have to accept the plan. This simply will not happen. The WEAC trust is not about to give up control of the dollars generated by their own health plan. Doyle would ne...

Re: Can’t see advantage …
Not to answer for the Fish, but school district administration is one of those things that most people really don't want to be handled by the lowest bidder. Car parts are one thing, but this is another completely. The real issue that lurks underneath all of this is that the Board and the administrat...

Re: Can’t see advantage …
$123,000 in base salary is probably at the high end for this area, but it is certainly well within the ballpark for a competent District Administrator. Actualy, the hiring process for an administrator is pretty much what you asked for in your letter: the job is advertised and applicants are intervie...

Re: Wolf attack hits close to home
I have a feeling that the problem will be solved quite soon. People are simply not going to put up with this. There is a reason why these animals were eliminated from the area long ago, and I suspect that the same reasons will cause them to be eliminated once again. It is great that the folks who do...

There is more than just hindsight involved, and entry should have been pursued to ensure that everything was OK. There was more than enough reason to get the landlord down to the door with a key or, failing that, to force entry. I realize that this is a matter of opinion, but why bother to have a po...

Re: Photo in Paper
Second guessing is always an easy process. That having been said, I have to wonder about this section of the story from the Leader: "Police were called to Maurer's two-story apartment complex around midnight that night after an upstairs tenant reported "yelling and screaming" coming f...

Re: Blowing Smoke Not an Option
P;d Scput is again correct as he normaly is. I don't smoke and have not smoked in 25 years, but the current political situation regarding this issue is ridiculous. If the government really thinks that smoking is all that harmful and that it should be banned, then they should outlaw cigarettes altoge...

Re: Now it's my turn ... A sister's perspective
Whenever something like this happens it is always the family and those who are close that suffer the most. As you say, the family did none of the criminal deeds, but they have to suffer along with those who did. I am certain that everyone on this message board has a great deal of compassion for the ...

Re: Now it's my turn ... A sister's perspective
Like it or not, we all grow up at some time or other. There is a point in life, probably too soon for some, at which we must assume full and complete responsibility for our actions. It is at this point that we are no longer allowed to claim that we got involved with a bad crowd as an excuse for inap...

Re: Shop in Tomahawk ???????
Just my two cents worth...I buy as much as I can from local stores where it is either convenient or economical to do so. The idea that we should all shop localy because of some regional loyalty is balderdash. All of you out there who drive foreign-made cars will understand what I am talking about. T...

I agree with you 100%. It is a sorry state of affairs. Unfortunately, the defacing of graves has been going on for a long time. I remember when I was a lad that periodicaly some group of idiots would go out and tip over or deface a bunch of grave stones. Almost all of these acts are committed by you...

Brian: It really does no good trying to talk to some folks. Once they presume that anyone who smokes must be an idiot, well, it will be hard to get another word in edgewise. What they really are trying to say is that anyone who does not agree with their position must be an idiot, and I just don't se...

Re: Proposed work place smoking ban in Rhinelander
Old Scout makes another great point and brings us back to the real issue here once again. That issue is and always has been the rights of property and business owners to regulate what goes on in their establishments and the rights of each individual to make personal choices. No one is arguing about ...

Re: Proposed work place smoking ban in Rhinelander
Sorry to keep driving you nuts, but the issue really is the rights of business owners. You can claim a couple million times that it is not, but that does not change the reality of what is going on here. Being obtuse about it will not change the fact that what is being proposed, at base level, is yet...

Re: Proposed work place smoking ban in Rhinelander
So, let's get this straight. Someone gets a job as a bartender/waiter/cook/whatever in an establishment that allows smoking. The individual knew before he/she took the job that smoking was allowed in the business and that they would be exposed to it if they wrok there. Now that this individual has t...

Re: Proposed work place smoking ban in Rhinelander
And neither smokers nor non-smokers should try to dictate to businesses how they are to be run. If you dont like the surroundings, go somewhere else. If the business owner decides to ban smoking and you don't like that, go somewhere else.

Re: Proposed work place smoking ban in Rhinelander
The real issue is getting clouded in smoke here. We all understand the negative issues regarding smoking, but the point of this thread had to do with the rights of business owners, not the impacts of smoking. If people do not want to eat and/or drink in an establishment that allows smoking, then the...

Re: Proposed work place smoking ban in Rhinelander
The business owner should have the right to establish the rules in his or her place of business. Customers who don't like the atmosphere or the company are always free to go elsewhere. Workplace arrangements offer a similar choice. There are far too many restrictions already on businesses without th...

I agree that the price is a bit high, but I guess it is another one of those things in which people will vote with their wallets. If the event comes out in the black and meets the expectations of both the presenters and the patrons, the price will probably stay where it is.

Even with all the wisdom that Abraham can muster there is infinitely more that we don't understand than that which we do. Sit still, shut up, close your eyes and try to get your mind around a concept like infinity and you will see what I mean. The bad news is that our minds will never be able to gra...
