Re: ATV's on the streets

Law requires insurance for automobiles and motorcycles. ATVs are not required to have insurance to operate on the streets. ATV registration and their portion of the gas tax does not go to maintaining the roadways; it goes to maintaining the ATV trails. ATV operators are not required to have driver’s...

Re: ATVs on roads: Make them street-legal first

Did anyone attend the King public hearing on opening up the county highways to ATVs? It sound like opening all public roadways to ATVs in the Town of Nokomis is a done deal. I wasn’t able to attend either hearing, but my source told me that the Nokomis Town Hall was packed with ATV supporters not ju...

Re: ATV on county roads

ATV drivers using roadways does not need a driver’s license. Their registration fees and their portion of the gas tax goes to trail maintenance and enforcement. They will not be contributing to the transportation fund. On June 1, 2010, all motor vehicles operated in Wisconsin will be required to hav...

Re: Town Hall Meeting on Smoking Band

All I did was post a notice of a public meeting. I didn’t think it would become so entertaining. Some people believe the Holocaust didn’t happen, the earth is flat and the Easter Bunny is real. You can find web sites that support these views….it takes all kinds. Thanks again for the entertainment, i...

Town Hall Meeting on Smoking Band

If you or someone you know would like to make an impact on youth and adult smoking, or reduce the impact of secondhand smoke on others, it is very important to provide your support by attending the Town Hall Meeting with Senator Holperin on January 26th. We talk a lot about social norms as a communi...

Re: Some will howl because of this.

The problem with timber wolves is they are predators and they may take an occasional deer in order to survive. They are competing with another deer predator-humans. According to the DNR, there are fewer hunters each year. The wolves can offset the lack of hunting pressure and the overpopulation of d...

Re: County Forest Proposal

It all about the person’s values. I haven’t ridden in a motorized boat in 20 years. I haven’t ridden a snowmobile since the 1970’s and I never been on an ATV. All the vehicles I ever owned have been 4 cylinders. I currently own a hybrid. My house is energy star rated, heated with a geo-thermal heat ...

Re: County Forest Proposal

You are right Catfish, I do dislike them. You can add ski boats, snowmobiles and people driving large SUV’s to that list. Hugodog thinks we should be good stewards of our planet and not destroyers of it. He is what a Redneck would call a tree hugger or what a slightly more educated person would call...

I would be happy to debate this issue with you, that is what this board is for. There is no need for personal name calling unless you are offended because you feel you fall into a category mentioned in the previous posting.

Re: Fall Ride

You can post anything you like on private property. A sign threating gun violence has no place on a playground. Also, unless it is self-defense the action he is implying could also be called murder. If there is a problem, law-enforcement needs to handle it, not a vigilante. Non-rednecks use this par...

Re: Fall Ride

This week I was at the Nokomis Community Park and there was a trailer parked on park property owned by Robert Troutman (aka “Bubba”) the person who leases the park for fall ride weekend for his beer party. On this trailer there was a large sign that threaten the use of gun violence if his property i...

County Forest Proposal

Gary Baier who is an Oneida County Supervisor and Chairperson of the Town of Nokomis recently proposed to the Oneida County Forestry, Land and Outdoor Recreation Committee that all county forest road that are currently gated or bermed to opened to motorized vehicles. I regard this as irresponsible. ...

Re: A very sad heart

Steve, I am very sorry you experienced Mr. Bier toxic behavior. It sounds like this government official is a very insecure person. If I remember back from 4th grade Civics class, freedom of press is in the Bill of Rights. You are not an employee of the Town of Nokomis; you are simply a volunteer rep...

Re: Fall ride

Here some interesting facts about Bubba’s Big Party. Bubba leases the Nokomis Community Park from the township to have the event on town property. Bubba does not control the park use and cannot control other park activities. This is a public park. Bubba is a private for profit enterprise. The vendor...
