Re: Farmers Markets
Tomahawk has 2 farmers markets each week; one at Washington Park behind the locomotive, and one on 3rd Street off Wisconsin Ave. I think they're Thursday and Monday or Thursday and Tuesday respectively. The Chamber office would know. Chamber phone # is 453-5334.

Re: Charging $25 for a Letter to the Editor
The Tomahawk Leader established the policy of charging for endorsement letters last year. The candidates who've spoken to us on the policy have agreed that it was needed and understand. We simply had too many campaign organizations writing letters to the editor and finding a willing person to put hi...

Re: ATV's on the streets
I agree with Old Scout. I've said all along that, if people want to operate ATVs on public roads, the ATVs should be street legal and the operators of legal age and licensed. That's the requirement in Montana and other states that I'm aware of.

Re: Without the cut and paste of sentences
I talk to a good many business owners on a regular basis and don't know of ANY who have gotten help from the government. The ones I knew who got small business loans are now out of business.

Re: Walker
Whether or not someone pays taxes on April 15 is truly a meaningless detail. Have you looked at someone else's tax forms? Take a look at your own. You get a break for the interest paid on your home mortgage. You get a deduction for charitable donations. You get a deduction for each kid you might hav...

Re: Obamacare
Perhaps Canada has more than two critical care natal facilities now, but at the time of the quints there were exactly two! And MRI facilities do get substantial use. I've had five in the last six months and I was not the only one waiting at any time (three different facilities). Also, the survey res...

Re: Obamacare
Remember the Canadian woman a few years ago who had quints. She had to be flown to Great Falls, Montana to deliver because Canada only has two facilities that can handle that kind of delivery and both were booked. Now, Great Falls, Montana is not exactly the medical metropolis of the U.S. and, still...

Here's some information for those of you who may think Obamacare is the answer to all your health insurance problems. This comes from a recent article in "Investor's Business Daily" concerning a survey undertaken by the United Nations International Health Organization. Percentage of men an...

Re: Unions took a hit
So it's only Republicans who lie, huh. Well, I have news for somebody. Yes, I vote Republican mostly...NOW. But in the early 1970s I was caucus coordinator for the Wisconsin state senate DEMOCRATIC caucus. I was also Lt. Gov. Martin Schreiber's first speech writer, also a DEMOCRAT. I was also a staf...

Re: Unions took a hit
Interestingly, Walker has already said he's opposed to any 'right to work' proposal (just last week). And as far as money paid to our newspaper on recall campaigns, we've received little more than ballots postings which is all tax paid – stuff I still consider a waste of money for taxpayers. I still...

Re: Unions took a hit
You're ignoring the whole point. Unions – especially public unions – don't hold the clout they used to and the general public don't like single-issue recalls unless it's a criminal or immoral matter. If it's a matter of political disagreement, wait till the next general election like you're supposed...

Unions took a hit
The unions surely received a major message from Tuesday's recall primary. Their candidate not only got thumped badly by Tom Barrett but Gov. Walker got more votes than Barrett and Falk combined. In fact, he got nearly as many votes as all four Democratic candidates despite having a primary opponent ...

Re: Walkergate
Sounds to me like someone has tried and convicted Gov. Walker even though he hasn't had a trial. Lots of loosely based allegations. Also, I started work in the Wisconsin legislature 42 years ago next month (for the senate Democrats, by the way) and charges of gerrymandering and drawing lines to suit...

Re: $cott Walkers balanced budget
As a non-union state employee working in the legislature from 1970-73 (for the Democrats), I never could understand why Wisconsin allowed both unions AND civil service. It had always been my understanding that civil service was designed to cover all issues of fairness in employment. I believe it was...

Re: Let's look at reforms...
Speaking as one who is on both Social Security and Medicare, I can easily attest to how some major cuts in both those problems can be made. STOP PAYING BENEFITS OUT TO PEOPLE WHO NEITHER PAID INTO THEM NOR DESERVE THEM! Why should people who come into this country receive any of these benefits? But ...

How about the semis on a four-lane highway, one in the right lane (going up hill) at 10 miles under the speed limit being passed by another in the left lane at 9 miles under? It's even worse when they're three lanes across on a six-lane highway. They shouldn't even be allowed in the far left lane in...

Isn't it ironic:
I've had this pointed out by a number of people and thought I'd pass it on: Isn't it ironic that the food stamp program, part of the Dept. of Agriculture, is pleased to be distributing the greatest amount of food stamps ever. Meanwhile, the Park Service, also part of the Dept. of Agriculture, asks u...
