Re: Commendable efforts

You're referring to Bubba's Bash. That event was always separate and never held in the City of Tomahawk so I don't see any economic drain just because it moved to Cougar Field. It was previously held at what is now Oaks Pub and at the Speedway (now closed), both of which are in the Township of Bradl...

Re: Must be credence to cougar claims

Cougars are an unprotected species in Wisconsin so, in reality, they can be shot on sight with no penalty. I've yet to hear of any actual physical evidence to back up these claims of the existence of cougars here but a warm carcass would probably do it. Until that happens I'll take these claims with...

Re: Fired because of tattoo …

I think what he was getting at was that it WAS ultimately the policy, and the call, of Harley-Davidson and NOT the policy of the security company. That's the impression that I get. I think that's the impression he'd like people to have but I just don't see any facts that back him up. Harley hires a...

Re: Fired because of tattoo …

David, You admit that you never worked for Harley-Davidson so why are you dragging them into your problem? You're no different than the guy who plows the snow or hauls the waste - an employee of a contractor and, I'll assume, non-union. Since you aren't an employee of Harley and never were, they don...

'Black Box' Recorder in Your Truck

The National Transportation Safety Board recently divulged that they had covertly funded a project with US auto makers for the past five years, whereby the auto makers were installing black box voice recorders in four-wheel drive pickup trucks in an effort to determine, in fatal accidents, the circu...

Re: Proposed work place smoking ban in Rhinelander

I still would like to know if any Tomahawk restaurants and bars are voluntarily smoke free or ever have been. Why? The fact that you have to ask kind of proves the point - if nonsmoking bars/restaurants are such wonderful ideas, why haven't they flourished? According to what some here have written,...

Re: Proposed work place smoking ban in Rhinelander

I do stay home rather than eat in a smoking place. Good for you. That's voting with your pocketbook. Be sure to let the restaurant manager know that you won't patronize that establishment until it is smoke free. If enough people feel the same way you do (80% was the figure you quoted), then busines...

Re: Proposed work place smoking ban in Rhinelander

To get back to the original topic, I don't agree with forcing some nonsmokers' agenda on a private business. Business owners reserve the right to run their businesses as they see fit, within the law, to make money. They, and only they, will decide if/where smoking (or any other legal activity) is al...

Re: Bush Bent On WAR!

I'm still waiting to see how you will tie in your 'very good examples' with the current war in Iraq. If you will slowly read the first entry you may notice that the war in Iraq is the subject of the thread. There is a BIG difference between fighting wars to preserve our freedom and our future (or th...

Re: Bush Bent On WAR!

So the 'pre-emptive attack' on Iraq and the miserable failure of the smirking chimp's policies is a good thing and any opposition to him/it is a bad thing? Brilliant! Mission Accomplished! By the way, which of those wars you listed were started by the United States and what were the very good reason...

I knew Scotty pretty well. He was a customer on my paper route in Frenchtown back in the '60's and also a friend of the family. Years later I served with him on the Tomahawk Fire Department. Scotty was a good man and quite a storyteller. You can find a few pictures of him at the TFD website.

Re: Ups-N-Downs - Hatchet Logo

I believe that, with feathers and other symbolic adornments removed, the Hatchet logo is only offensive to our opponents, who long ago learned to fear the power of the mighty, mighty Hatchets. Go Big Blue! ;) As for some of the opinions voiced by the writer above, I'd like to clarify a few things wi...

Re: Christmas

I would just like to know why Christianity seems to have to be wiped out entirely in order to do it. Wow. So, ummm..., you now believe that an entire religion, cherished by millions, will instantly be erased from civilization simply because someone, somewhere, says 'Happy Holidays' to another? Plea...

Re: Christmas

So what exactly does the term "Happy Holidays" mean to unbelievers? How do you define 'unbelievers'? As, perhaps, someone who isn't just like you? A number of other religions also observe celebrations at this time of year, some of which predate Christianity. The greeting "Happy Holid...

Re: Target of scorn, slander ...

Let me see if I understand your position here, Mr. Kaczmarek. Your fellow union brothers and sisters voted to strike when negotiations with a new, union-busting employer went nowhere. Always a last resort, strikes are effective only when the members stick together and fight to preserve the benefits ...

My apologies to Jay for participating in the sidetracking of this thread... Public schools are not and should not be the place for religious instruction. Why is that so hard for some people to understand? The assumption many make is that children will only be taught about 'your' religion and to wors...

Re: Evading the gas prices

Save your money Jay. Those 'amazing' gizmos have been around since at least the sixties. I'm surprised that someone hasn't added magnets to them to more precisely 'align the ions in the gasoline and release all that wasted energy'. That was another pseudo-scientific product claim. The bottom line is...

I don't like all the fireworks either, but I see no problem with people being able to purchase and use them if that is what they want to do. Those who oppose the sale and/or use are just another group of those trying to protect us from ourselves and impose their will on everyone else.b I have no in...
