Re: Logger shooting

A relative of mine logs in a similar fashion. He doesn't even own a gun let alone carry two of them in his skidder and he is in his early 70's. In the skidder you are well caged in by steel protection, yet Van Meter claimed loggers commonly carry guns because of wild animals. What kind of animals wo...

The christian religious right wing fundamentalists tend to be more immersed whether they like it or not in pluralistic societies that demand a higher degree of tolerance. They do react to similar issues from time to time. I don't believe in any magical or mystical significance to coincidence or fort...

Archer Daniels Midland Company stands to reap great profits from the mandated ethanol use legislation about to descend on Wisconsin. The proponents claim ever...

The republicans control all aspects of government now: executive, legislative, and judiciary so the ball is in their court. I suspect there will be much grandstanding; they will pass some useless legislation, pat each other on the back, then go on an elaborate junket sponsored by the coal mining cor...

Gould was a confirmed evolutionist until the end and his theory of punctuated equlibrium that is often misquoted by creationists is merely a small snippet from his own insight into the mechanisms of evolution, not a disavowel of evolution. The other comments refer not to any problem with the scienti...

Boy. So many questions. First, what makes me dizzy here is that I agree with Nell. This is something to celebrate this Winter Solstice Season. Second, even though the thread is not specifically about the Dover, PA case, in that case the proponents carefully left a supreme being out of it in order to...

Re: Ups-n-Downs - ECCOLA Wolf Response

On the number of deer eaten by wolves, it varies. Most authorities put it somewhere between 15 and 19 or so in Wisconsin where other large hooved prey is limited. For convenience say 450 times 20 equals 9000. Reported car kills are at about 50,000 with estimated unreported car kills at another 50,000.

I'm a lifelong pagan of course and the Winter Solstice is about as close as you can get to an empirically fact-based festive occasion. Christ if he existed at all was born in the fall and some of the other religious based occasions are on even shakier ground. I think the public is tired of having re...

This reminds me of the case of my sister's father-in-law. When his mental and physical health declined in the early to mid 1980s he came to live with them as his financial resources were exhausted. As it turned out he died a few days later and willed most everything to his son married to my sister. ...

Yes, you just can't get a haircut on line yet. I don't mind going to one of those yuppie like places and getting my hair cut by a attractive girl rubbing her breasts against me as she does so, but I just feel dirty paying for it afterward.

Well for whatever reason they picked someone 78 years old. Perhaps they reasoned that if it doesn't work out at least they will not have to wait as long until the next pick.
