Re: Living the dream

Jeff, I'll keep you posted on how the fishing on Lake Alice and the Wisconsin River in the Tomahawk area is going until you can return. Being a Pointer alumni, I know of several great walleye and catfish holes in the Stevens Point area that I can direct you and your son to, although I'm sure he alre...

Re: Fly Fishing in the Tomahawk Area?

There's many areas in Tomahawk that offer great fishing from shore due to the number of dams located around town. I would recommend getting a map from the Tomahawk Regional Chamber of Commerce and trying several of these spots, including in particular the ones mentioned above. Wisconsin Public Servi...

Re: Living the dream

As the season quickly turns here in the Northwoods, I look forward to sharing with you my adventures in chasing down the next esox in the Tomahawk area. I wrote the attached article for our North Country Style section of the Tomahawk Leader, and I'm posting it here for all of you who might not have ...

Re: Living the dream

After a multitude of not so successful attempts at increasing my musky hook-up rate with suicks, by tweaking them slightly, I have concluded the best option I have found is to spend the money and buy a short rod. How I've come to this conclusion has been through trial and error, bloodied thumb nails...

Re: Living the dream

If this weekend follows suit with how musky fishing has been this week, then there likely will be some very happy anglers in the Tomahawk area come Sunday. I missed multiple opportunities to boat fish with the last being a beast I briefly hooked last night. Another from Tuesday hit the suick I was c...

Re: Living the dream

Jeff, Send me your email address at jbuelow@tomahawkleader.com so I can get you information on some great fishing areas near Pine Shore Lane. Just let me know what you plan on fishing for and when you'll be in Tomahawk. I'd probably get run out of town by my guide friends if I posted specific spots ...

Re: Living the dream

Fishing cooled off a bit yesterday after a cold front pushed through Tomahawk Wednesday night. The Rico clan up visiting from Lakewood had a tough go at it trying a couple area lakes. We were able to end the day with some success as we found feeding walleyes and some nice sized smallmouths below Kin...

Re: Living the dream

You should have been here yesterday. As anglers, we've all heard and shared this bad omen with friends and fellow anglers who just missed out on some of the best fishing of the season. The saying is usually backed up by pictures, a fish fry and often a few days of less than desirable fishing conditi...

Re: Living the dream

Thanks for reminding me Jeff. The pounder bulldawg should probably be left to the younger guys. I got about 15 casts in before I felt like I needed to go looking for spare parts for my elbow. I might try it again in the fall, but for now, I think I'm going to stick with the smaller bulldawgs and oth...

Re: Living the dream

There may be some great musky fishing here in the Tomahawk area this Friday as a storm is expected to pass through in the evening and the peek lunar feeding period runs from 5:36 p.m. to 7:36 p.m. Be careful if heading out as some of the storms could be severe. I'll be looking to cover as much big-m...

Re: Brett Favre Poll

I agree teams (as well as society) shouldn't rob Peter to pay Paul. One could easily see disposing of Rodgers, perhaps prematurely, to please and bring Favre back as such a move. However, bringing back a quarterback who is a proven winner while releasing a guy who appears might be injury prone, I fe...

Re: Living the dream

Fishing another cold-front weekend proved tricky as the fish really had to be finessed and the presentation had to be slowed down to trigger the walleye bite. After two nights of fishing the Wisconsin River system in the Tomahawk area, a friend and I were able to catch walleyes in deeper water (14 t...

Re: Brett Favre Poll

I respect all above mentioned views, but I would prefer the Packers welcome Favre back as the starter and trade Rodgers. Based on stats alone, Favre took an offense people thought would stink last year within one game of the Super Bowl. He's never missed a game and, above all, he's a proven winner. ...

Re: Living the dream

Just a quick heads up to all anglers who will be heading out in the Tomahawk area this weekend. Peak lunar p.m. fishing periods are again aligning with nightfall, so make sure to get out and hit tonight's evening feed. It should be dynamite as storms are expected to pass through with a cold front th...

Re: Living the dream

Tip: When ice fishing with friends make sure to take along the cheapest beer you can. That way you're assured a long day of fishing with far fewer distractions! Well we couldn't have asked for much better weather over the Fourth of July holiday weekend and the boat traffic on many area waters was qu...

Re: Living the dream

A quick update for all anglers fishing in the Tomahawk area this Fourth of July holiday weekend. I was a bit surprised to catch walleyes while going after some fish surfacing in the shallows on the Wisconsin River last night. They were hitting a weighted plastic crayfish I was casting for what I tho...

Re: Living the dream

Even the cool air temps couldn't slow down the musky bite this past weekend on the Wisconsin River in Tomahawk, and with a new moon phase quickly approaching (plus storms forecasted for Wednesday) musky fishing will likely explode in the coming days. A special thanks goes out to Gregg Zipp of Zippy'...

Re: Living the dream

I've brought it up before, but it warrants repeating when you can catch dozens of walleyes in the middle of the day without a boat. Fishing below dams in the Tomahawk area is fast, easy to do and can often be very rewarding. Such was the case this past weekend. After limited success fishing walleye ...

Re: Living the dream

And now guagga mussels are eating the zebra mussels on Lake Michigan. These tiny buggers are suppose to be even more destructive as they can grow virtually anywhere and feed year round. With some 75 inland lakes already infested with zebra mussels, it is logical to expect this new invasive species t...

Re: Living the dream

I've read taking smallies off their spawning beds also is a problem during tournaments on Lake Michigan. Seems gobbies (I believe) move in and can nearly destroy the beds before the bass can return after being released. I'd be curious to see if any studies are being done on this, and if so, whether ...

Re: Living the dream

The Wisconsin River impoundments in the Tomahawk area are some of the nation's best musky fishing waters, as Ric Diehl, Round Lake, Ill., proves here with this 53-inch esox he boated on Saturday. Unfortunately, Diehl said the fish expired after the battle. It does go to show muskies put their feedba...

Re: Living the dream

Last night I saw something that I know is puzzling more musky hunters out there than just myself. As I was heading back to my dock after a couple hours of fishing, I came across what looked to be a small bird or muskrat's head poking out of the water. Curious, I slowed down as I approached to get a ...
