Re: Living the dream

With the snow flying outside, I can't help but think about the upcoming ice fishing season. I've had some ice in my bait bucket but have yet to see any forming on the bay in front of my house. I'll be posting ice updates as soon as it forms. The musky bite appears to be back in full swing after the ...

Re: Living the dream

ToddC, I think we both were fortunate to be out on the water on one of those legendary days that don't come around very often. Congrats on breaking the 50-inch mark! I imagine that got your musky fever going. The warmer weather seems to have cooled off the musky bite lately. No new fish to report on...

Re: Living the dream

Muskymom, great to know your monster musky is still swimming in Lake Mohawksin. Good luck the rest of this fall and keep us posted if you get another essox. ToddC, it sounds like you and I had the same luck last weekend. Saturday was amazing, and it has gone down hill ever since. I got a small musky...

Re: Living the dream

Jeff, I'll keep an eye out for you while I'm out rowing around Lake Alice, too. I'm REALLY interested in row trolling, so if you get some time, please let me know how it works and what works best for you. Congrats to Tina Frick on your 47-1/2 inch Lake Mohawksin monster musky. The picture is in the ...

Re: Living the dream

ToddC, I released my first musky with the quick strike rig last Sunday and it worked pretty well. Thanks for the tip. I'll be out on Lake Alice all weekend, so I'll make sure I keep an eye out and say hi if I see you. Speaking of keeping an eye out, watch for the 47 1/2 inch musky that was taken out...

Re: Living the dream

The first musky was amazing and the second blew my mind. I couldn't have imagined a better evening on Lake Alice than the one I experienced last night. The lake was calm, the boat traffic was light and the fish were feeding - big time. Following the Packer's fifth victory, I headed out to cast some ...

Re: Living the dream

Jeff, When I wrote Alligator Spoon I think I meant Crocodile Spoon. It has been awhile since I purchased them and haven't been able to track any down on the web. I bought mine at Gander Mountain In Sheboygan. They have reflective tape on one side and are completely white (not whit) - and weigh 1 oun...

Re: Living the dream

My thoughts are with the residents of Crandon as the community now enters the healing stage. I would have been at the cabin on Lake Metonga on Sunday had I not went to visit family in Algoma. I wish all my friends there the best. Keep the the young who lost their lives in your hearts as you move for...

Re: Living the dream

Jeff, God's Country just seems to be getting better each day this fall, if possible. I have to keep this short because I'm heading out on Lake Alice as soon as I get done with work. I'll keep you posted on the Lake Alice bite, as well as other bodies of water in the area, until next summer. Sunny, A...

Re: Living the dream

Not too bad for my first time musky fishing on Lake Alice last night. The water was calm after the evening rain, so I decided to head out in my row boat and flip a top raider before darkness fell. Earlier, I had stopped by Chuck's to pick up some supplies and decided to grab a couple musky suckers. ...

Re: Living the dream

ToddC, Thanks for your insight on moon phases and weather fronts. When faced with fishing after a cold front, say opening weekend or when friends are visiting, I normally try to stay pretty broad with the species I intend to catch. I'll normally start off by fishing for game fish, but I don't hesita...

Re: Living the dream

Ah yes. I see Fishing Unlimited stocked Lake Alice with 6,000 channel catfish a few years back, which means by now those fish would be pretty big. I'll have to throw a gob of worms off the dock this weekend and see if I can't come across one of those nighttime prowlers. Fishing before the storm last...

Re: Living the dream

Mullin17, I haven't done it yet, but your post may have just pushed me over the edge. I've been talking about going catfishing this entire summer and have yet to do so. I think your shock of catching a very, very nice channel cat (I presume) would have come as a shock to many local anglers. I'm not ...

Re: Living the dream

Kingrdlk,
Four muskies off your dock sounds like a pretty good deal. Just wondering if any of those fish looked like the alligators you've seen?
Tuesday night I saw several suckers come to the surface while I was fishing. The next few days might be the time to get number five.

Sunnydaygirl, When people ask me what I'm catching fish on I usually answer, "the end of my line." (Ha Ha). I like your suggestion and will try to incorporate product names in future posts. Unfortunately, my most recent fishing trip only involved a Ford truck, some BP gasoline and a best f...

If the weather stays as is, I might be giving an ice update in the very near future - I heard it was snowing just north of Minocqua this morning.

Re: Living the dream

The beauty of first ice is you don't have a lot of people on the lake and snowmobiles are too heavy to be out. I'm talking two to four inches when I refer to early ice. The best years are when you can get out around or before Thanksgiving. Bays are always the first to freeze. I always make sure to c...

Re: Living the dream

Jeff, A few weeks ago you were asking about Lake Alice and where to fish. Well, in the future I'll be able to share very up to date information with you because I'm moving to the lake at the end of this month. I LOVE first ice fishing. I love the silence, the thrill it gives me, and above all, I lov...

Re: Living the dream

Jeff, It is legal to use panfish as bait as long as you count them as part of your daily slot limit. Just as concerning as the line in the water at Kings Dam, I find the line on the shoreline to be another potential hazard. Small mammals and waterfowl are known casualties of this often careless disr...

Re: Living the dream

I'm also familiar with the Kings Dam musky and the one that got away. Last fall, I had a strike from what I believed to be a very large musky I had just seen submarine below the dam. After casting every plug in my musky tackle box, I decided to call it a night. The next morning, I returned to Kings ...
