Re: Tomahawk Hatchet

School Board members recently received the letter from a Native American interest group that sparked the controversy over the Tomahawk Hatchets logo. Apparently the main point of interest was in the eagle feathers that were attached to the hatchet/tomahawk. The letter explained that these eagle feat...

Re: Tomahawk Hatchet

Not to extend this nonsense thread any further than possible, but we really have two issues here. The first regards the idiotic attempt by a state politician to draw attention away from the real problems facing school districts all across the state by trying to focus our attention on this non-issue....

Re: Christmas

I would almost rather go in for a double colonoscopy than agree with Abraham, but then the holiday season does funny things to everyone. If Christmas means anything at all it is supposed to be good will to all men. I don't know what others may have in mind, but that is what the season means to me. I...

Re: The Redheaded Stepchild: Does EMS Belong in the Fire Ser

I certainly don't disagree with anything that you have said, but there is a very real problem with placing EMS at hospitols. Most, if not all, of these institutions are run on a for-profit basis by companies and corporations while EMS is operated at the expense, and hopefully for the benefit of, the...

Re: Some things never change

I don't think it is at all "nonsense", but I do agree that the issue should come to an end. Back in the 1940's and 1950's the Leader actualy had a weekly column on Boy Scout activities. This was under previous management, I am sure, but I would encourage that the same spirit of coverage be...

Re: Some things never change

It is getting pretty bad when the Merrill paper picks up on the same news release weeks before the Tomahawk Leader, especially when the story concerns a Tomahawk community issue of some importance. We see loads of articles on 4-H and Girl Scout issues in a timely fashion but rarely get Boy Scout new...

I know that there are some basic differences between the two issues, but does anyone else find it amazing that we have large organized groups invoking the power of the Constitution to prevent the spread of Christian beliefs and ideals yet using the same Constitution to protect the rights Neo-Nazi bi...

Re: $2,500, $700 equate to a lot of Girl Scout cookies

There are a lot of "publicly funded" buildings all over the place that are not available for free. Some of them are not available for use by the tax paying public for any price. It costs a tremendous amount of money to keep schools open and in good repair. Costs that are incurred beyond wh...

Re: Tomahawk High School Sports

I have to agree with Deb on the coaching evaluation issue. Far too many parents and participants would use the wrong criteria when making the evaluation and the message from the ones who did it correctly would get lost in the shuffle. Almost all our coaching positions are classified as "above p...

Re: Tomahawk High School Sports

I really think that you should contact the school administration and voice these issues with them. Most of the problems that you cite are valid cause for concern, and should be brought to the administration and the Board formaly. This is the only way to get the system to change and I encourage you t...

Re: Tomahawk High School Sports

The $15 fee for each participant hardly covers any of the costs associated with the sports that the kids are involved in. The cost to clean the locker areas after a single game will eat up that small amount of money very quickly, and we have not purchased so much as a hockey puck or a football yet. ...

Re: Tomahawk High School Sports

Almost all of these fund raisers are conducted by booster groups consisting of interested citizens, parents, alumni, and kids. Funds are used to purchase items not included in the regular budget such as bus upgrades. The fundraising efforts for the girl's hockey program this year, for example, will ...

Re: Tomahawk not the Northwoods anymore.

I am not really sure how much of a stretch it might be. With private property rights proving to be little but non-existant at some levels of government, it will be an uphill battle to hold on to our water (no pun intended)as the years go by. Sooner or later the government will probably decide that i...

Re: Tomahawk not the Northwoods anymore.

This thread has certainly brought out all aspects of the subject under discussion, including the downright idiotic. If the lord wants to give us his opinion on land use, I am sure that Kerry will authorize him as a member and then he can post his thoughts for us. In the meantime, I think it is just ...

Re: Tomahawk not the Northwoods anymore.

Three big cheers for Antioch. I could not have said it better. To add just a bit to his/her comments I must say that comments about "blue grass lawns to the waters edge" pretty much typify the real problem here. I may not own the lake, but I pay for having it there every year on my propert...

Re: Tomahawk not the Northwoods anymore.

I couldn't possibly be off topic since I am responding to comments made by Abraham in another post on this thread. Not a word of it was plagarised either. I simply waxed eloquent at the time. Don't own a jet ski, sorry. My views regarding the rights of property owners are fairly absolute. The issue ...

Once again we get the empty lecture and reading list regarding classical liberalism put to us in such a way that we are supposed to assume that it is in some way characteristic of modern American liberalism. Nothing could be further from both truth and reality. The classical liberal pillars of prope...

I don't like the idea of children playing with fireworks anymore than anyone else, but it is the parents responsibility, not the government, to see that this does not happen. As far as the lights on the other side of the lake, I can see several from my lakeside windows right now, and I do not find t...

Re: Tomahawk not the Northwoods anymore.

I don't like all the fireworks either, but I see no problem with people being able to purchase and use them if that is what they want to do. Those who oppose the sale and/or use are just another group of those trying to protect us from ourselves and impose their will on everyone else. As far as the ...

Old Scout still remembers the days when all of us men would sit around the pot bellied stove in the barber shop and swap lies. Shave and a haircut cost two bits in those days and the conversation was priceless. Trouble is, as you get older you need less barbering. :p

Whoever lives there ought to clean the place up. I don't think anyone expected that the area would be turned into a junk yard when the building was sold in the first place.

I'm sorry, but I have to side with the city on this one. It costs real dollars to put on the extra security required and handle the other organization and clean-up issues. The city has to pay for these things. City money comes from only two sources: property taxes and fees. I really can't see the pr...

Ms. Stenzel's appearance has been completely financed with private donations and does not involve the expenditure of any public funds. Her appearance has been supported by local health care professionals and the Board of Education. I don't quite understand what the problem is except that her message...
