Re: Bradly park camping

Kerry, A vendor or operator of the campground can be one in the same. These things are usually put out to bid creating opportunity for free enterprise to do its thing. Nine out of ten times it is a local businessman that gets the bid. But I totally agree with you that not only city government should...

Re: Bradly park camping

I don't think a bridge is totally necessary. I can also maybe see a vendor (or Deb, our campground host) on sight that sold bait and ice, rented out boats, fishing tackle, maybe a few sundries. Another nice piece of revenue for the city. Instead of spending money on the bridge I would like to see tw...

Re: Bradly park camping

I'm about 75 miles north of the fires. I only have to drive a few miles south in the evening and we can see the glow. We can also see the smoke. One of the refueling stations for the fire fighters flying those tankers is here in Santa Maria. They had just closed it down the same day the fire started...

Re: Brett Favre

Personally I think Favre or anyone else has a right to work and to do so as long as they are able to find some one willing to pay them. I do wish he could have finished his career with a few less antics but so be it. As for his reputation, that reminds me of a line Don Johnson said in a movie, "...

Re: Bradly park camping

Kerry, I agree with you and would want to see free enterprise brought into the mix if at all possible. Many cities and county government see the need to get into the campground business as a way of filling their obligation to supply parks and recreation to the communities they govern. Some enter in ...

Re: Bradly park camping

Hey Ken, I love that high-rise trailer park! Was it designed at Stanford's Architectural school?

Maybe we can get mrbrowns to include this in his proposal to the city!

1926-1927 Tourist Brochure I thought some of you may like this historical piece on camping and resorts in the Tomahawk area that dates back to 1926. I'm sure many of you have seen this already but maybe not everyone. There are several old photos of different resorts including: Essex Lodge Charlie's ...

Re: Bradly park camping

Everything you pointed out is merely a matter of enforcement. I have owned motor homes on and off for the most part of 30 years. I have camped in campgrounds all over this country and I have never seen that "Cousin Eddie". I have had an occasional generator annoy me but that's about it. I ...

Re: Justice served?

I totally agree with you kkmar. But these sort of rulings are becoming common place all over the country. We just had a guy get a 90 day community service sentence after he killed a women when, under the influence of smoking grass, he crossed over a double yellow line to pass a car and caused a head...

Re: Bradly park camping

mrbrowns, you know, I don't know if it was off limits back in the 60' or not to be honest with you. If it was, we were not aware of it. We would have never done anything we were not susposed to do. Nope not us! lol A walk over bridge would be fine, I was just kidding about the heavy equipment thing....

WOW! That sounds like a wonderful idea! The old landing strip as camping and Bradley Park as it is... I love it! Best of both worlds! I know the island you are referring to very well. I camped on that island a number of times in my misspent youth! lol Didn't they used to call that Box Island or Box ...

Re: Bradly park camping

Gee Jeff, stub your toe on your way out of bed this morning? Or are you the new message board gestapo? lol Personally I don't care if they put camping in the park or not. But I still think that it can be done and done right on some level, assuming the community wanted it. If they don't want it, so b...

Re: Bradly park camping

You can build camp grounds with out a lot of heavy equipment. I know we did when we built camping of the Boys Scouts in one of our local parks. But hey, I don't live there anymore. If I did and started thinking about the loud music and screaming kids that you mention... I to may be more supportive o...

Re: Bradly park camping

Everything you said is very true Old Scout. But I can't help but think that if the powers that be wanted camping there, they would find a way. That's the way it usually is with most political situations. Issues like erosion and the terrain in general can be dealt with. Unfortunatly we have become a ...

Re: Bradly park camping

Maybe the park is not as big as I remember it! lol As far as it being a destination, it was a very popular destination back when they allowed camping. Motor home sites usually are right on top of each other, for maintenance purposes. And especially if you run water and electricity to them. But how l...

Re: Bradly park camping

Well, I don't see why, if it done right, they can't bring back camping in Bradley Park. It's just the perfect location and such a wonderful setting. I'm not suggesting 40 foot motor homes with full hock-ups. But I can see smaller motor homes, camp trailers and certainly tents. You just limit the siz...

Re: Wake up call: underage drug use

I think Rick Lodholz has pretty much got it right here. I seen a report last year on CNBC about the loss of productivity due to hangovers on the Monday following the Super Bowl was in the billion of dollars every year alone. Alcohol extracts a much higher toll on the human condition then other drugs.

Thanks Old Scout....

I think I remember those toboggan rides too now that you mention it...

Sad to hear about the Roadhouse failing... too bad... I remember it as a pretty nice place.
