Re: Girl's hockey

Depending on how many sports teams there are for guys and girls consideration is out the window. The girls can just sue if there are more guys teams and more money going to them...

It happened to UWEC while I was there (for girls hockey I believe).

Re: Is God Really a Republican?

Just a hunch... I would bet that any divine being has little "faith" in either party since there is no "proof" that either party really has anyone but themselves at heart. They also seem to do little but offer the "Promise Land" to their followers while leaving anyone w...

Re: Abstinence Education in Tomahawk

Baby, Way to skip right over the good news!!! Teen Pregnacy is DROPPING! Also, as the link I provided pointed out... Many of the countries with lower teen pregnancy have kids that are equally sexually active but have contraceptives available!!! Personally, I'd advocate offering both to all students....

Re: Abstinence Education in Tomahawk

Actually Zoe, the message must slowly be getting through because the teen pregnancy rate continues to decline...

Also, studies have shown that teens in the US are having sex just as often as those in other developed countries. However, we have a much higher pregnancy rate.

A computer option

Just thought I would throw out a quick note to anyone thinking about a new computer. Apple announced an entry level Mac today that destroys one of the biggest claims about Mac's, "They're too expensive." It starts at $499. Throw in that there are basically zero viruses and spyware for the ...

What level of co-ed are we talking Deb? The dorm I was in in Eau Claire had guys one one wing and girls on the other and I voted to consider allowing alternating rooms. I would NOT have voted for sharing rooms but do think that by the time you reach the college level you are going to need to be able...

Re: Salvation Army Bell Ringers

Sorry Nugget,

I still say I'm going home when I go to Tomahawk (my parents) but I now live in Appleton, Wisconsin since graduating from UW-Eau Claire. I haven't really lived in Tomahawk for about 5 years and even the two years before that were only for the summer.

Re: Salvation Army Bell Ringers

Tomahawk used to have clothing stores (and I believe has a women's clothing store again) but didn't get enough business to do much. Again, if people would consider shopping in town the stores might carry more products. Ben Franklin used to carry limited clothing too (I have no idea if the still do)....

Re: Salvation Army Bell Ringers

Do you know is the $150 million mark just last year or in the lifetime of Walmart? Gannett is a much smaller company (remember Walmart is in the top couple if not the top of the Fortune 500). Gannett's foundation has given over $100 million since 1991. Over 1.5 million of that was matching employee ...

Re: Salvation Army Bell Ringers

Your right, competitions is good. However, the "boom" you see is generally the other "chain" stores. See how the small hardware stores are doing in cities that open a Menards, Fleet Farm or Home Depot. Now, remember that John and Jane Doe who own the hardware store do not have a ...

Baby,

Didn't Walmart ban the bell ringers a long time ago? Either way that is a company that isn't exactly as friendly toward towns as they want you to think they are. Want to see a lot of small businesses die quickly, open a Walmart...

Re: Hey Bush Bashers!!

MJC135, You might want to be a little more careful in pointing out the "bias" of an entire corporation. Gannett (correct spelling) owns more than 100 daily newspapers in the US alone. Many of these newspapers endorsed Bush (some even to my suprise), others endorsed Kerry. The company also ...

Just to keep the discussion going... Every year an independent tax watchdog group analyzes the average tax burden on Americans, and then calculates the "Tax Freedom Day". This is the day after which the money you earn goes to you, not the government. This year, tax freedom day was April 11...

Fushia, My point though is how do you enforce it? You would have to PAY people to stand at a road block at EVERY entrance into the city to watch for a sticker, etc... Even if you just did SARA park you have to figure out how to enforce it (pretty open area). If it is really a concern the best bet wo...

Fushia, That is a pretty one sided view. I drove to Tomahawk on Saturday, drove right through town (although I changed my typical route slightly). Stopped at a couple of stores to pick up things I needed (on 4th street), turned accross traffic and drove out Hwy CC without more than a couple minutes ...

Old Scout,

I've seen intersections in Appleton and Eau Claire that seem a lot like that one.

I don't really think it is necessary as long as the road goes from a one lane to a two lane right there. Traffic coming from S simply becomes the right lane of the road.

Thoughts?

I could be wrong but I thought I had seen something on the Eagle Scouts. I remember thinking about a former roommate who stopped just short of completing it.

Humbug, Why do they have to contradict each other? How long is a day if you are eternal? What was God's method for creating man? Remember that those who wrote the bible were "inspired" by God and "interpreted". For all we know one day is a billion years to a divine power... Heck,...
