Re: Gun Control Law Proposals

Just like you've never dealt with the state of WI in filing sales tax or the federal gov't in filing withholding taxes. Have you ever dealt with getting a private company's products listed on the GSA website? How about completed a 2nd or 3rd class bulk postal form? You know what my examples and you...

Re: Gun Control Law Proposals

Hey Kerry, have YOU been to gun show lately? Because the last one I was at I had to fill out the same paperwork that I did just recently buying 2 guns from a registered gun dealer. Mizriz, Must not be the case at all of them huh? Since that's what a lot of the uproar is over right now and is what t...

Re: Gun Control Law Proposals

By the way, while you are busy using your Google toolbar, look up the WI DNR and how many kids that took the Hunter's safety coarse have been involved in a violent gun crime. If you want to use a statistic to make your point you can look it up. If you aren't going to find the information it's about...

Re: Gun Control Law Proposals

How about we actually wait and see what is proposed before we start declaring civil war? Any bans on guns or magazines will have to pass congress and from what I've read most of the executive order ideas are things like appointing a director of the ATF (which hasn't had a director for six years now)...

Re: Gun Control Law Proposals

I just looked up the gun laws in Madison. You want to talk about a joke... Every gun sold must be reported to the police within something like seven days. Handguns still have a seven day waiting period (and includes private sales). No assault rifles (as defined by name, there's a good idea). And a b...

Re: Gun Control Law Proposals

Most honest people will follow the law, but do you seriously believe that anyone with criminal intent is going to submit to a background check. That's the thing, they DO, well some of them anyway. In the last 10 years there have been 987,578 denials of the NICS background check. Of those, 577,814 h...

Re: Gun Control Law Proposals

Old Scout, Perhaps, or maybe you sell that gun to someone normally upstanding and they get caught shooting a deer, or heck, get pulled over on the way home. And maybe they're more than happy to help cut a deal. People are always going to break the law. Even if 1/2 of the guns sold followed this that...

Re: Gun Control Law Proposals

Old Scout, One half of the FFLs are collectors so and with as many of them as there are, I still think with the number of FFLs out there you should be able to find someone that will do it cheaply. I also did a little more research and found out the background check might not always have a cost. The ...

Re: Gun Control Law Proposals

Background checks are already required to buy a gun. What I do with it once I own it is the question. No, they aren't. Background checks are required to buy a gun from a licensed "dealer". Other than that, there is no current requirement in Wisconsin for a background check. It's estimated...

Re: Gun Control Law Proposals

Asterix, Depends where you live. In Wisconsin full auto is generally against the law with only a few exceptions. In other states you only need to pass much more strict background checks, get approval from the local sheriff, pay a couple of hundred dollar fee and then you can buy one manufactured bef...

Re: Gun Control Law Proposals

Tooten, It's nit picky, but automatic weapons are generally already illegal. That's one of the things I've had to constantly keep pointing out to non-gun people that think we should just ban guns, etc. so it's something those that do believe in gun rights should be careful about. Too many think anyo...

Re: Gun Control Law Proposals

In Utah, it is legal to carry in a school. Utah also requires more thorough training than Wisconsin. And in Utah you have to become a member to have a drink at a bar (sorry, a "club"). There are also a number of other states that have never had a school shooting (which isn't what my sugge...

Re: Gun Control Law Proposals

I find it ironic that so many of the same people that firmly believe you should have to pass a drug test to get food stamps are so vehemently opposed to the idea of having to pass a background check to buy a gun...

Re: Gun Control Law Proposals

The more I read and listen to the news about the gun control issue, the more I am convinced it isn't about the guns, it is about control. Old Scout, that was part of my goal. My suggestions shouldn't give the government more control (I actually thought about that). I had the process go through an F...

That's what most of the people that were in those institutions were facing. Remember it's estimated over 26% of Americans over 18 could be diagnosed with a mental illness.

Re: Gun Control Law Proposals

You don't need a gun to commit them, you just need something as simple as a kitchen knife or ones bare hands. So, given the choice to be attacked by the person with the gun or the one with the knife, which one are you going to choose? Same day as the woman saving her kids (a story I passed on to ot...

Re: Gun Control Law Proposals

You can call me a fanatic but I once saw a movie where only the Police and the Military had guns, it was called Schindler's List. Funny, same movie, they locked people up without charging them with a crime, with no recourse simply because they were different. And yet somehow it's perfectly acceptab...

Re: Gun Control Law Proposals

River Rat, I've already said multiple times, my proposals won't stop something like that. They WILL help reduce the much more common gun crimes though. Sandy Hooks are a very small percentage of gun crimes. Daily murders, assaults, robberies, etc. are MUCH more common. Reducing the availability of g...

Re: Gun Control Law Proposals

And you suggest they now do a national database for firearms? Mizriz, I never suggested a national database for guns. I suggested a database for STOLEN guns, which has been pointed out, I believe by Tooten, to already exist (not just for guns). I'm very against the idea of having a database of guns...

I'd also suggest that with all your worldly travels and experience you should know better than to make assumptions ...

Re: Gun Control Law Proposals

So who exactly would a gun lock keep from getting at your gun? As I mentioned in one of the posts. It proves in court you had a method to secure the firearm. If you choose not to, which is still your choice, you're responsible. Yes, in Wisconsin you are responsible if a child accesses your gun. Tha...

Re: Gun Control Law Proposals

There is already a stolen property database that includes guns. It has been in existence since the mid-sixties and it is called NCIC or the National Crime Information Center. Excellent, one less cost. Just give the FFL access to search for serial numbers in that database and we're done... Law enfor...

Re: Gun Control Law Proposals

One law or one hundred laws will not stop someone who is intent upon committing a crime with a gun or any other weapon/means. Further regulating those who choose to follow laws does nothing to deter those who don't care about laws. One person with no criminal record can supply a large group of peop...
