Re: Spirit River Dam

Any further information or observations would be greatly appreciated! I'd hate to see this beautiful flowage destroyed.

Re: Spirit River Dam

That is good news that workers have appeared, thanks for the update. I'm very familiar with the periodic wintertime drawdown, I've also been witnessing it for decades, although only about 1/2 as many as your 60 :) The key words here are "periodic" and "wintertime." A sustained dr...

Re: Spirit River Dam

I posted this on Jed's fishing forum here on the Leader message boards. It was in response to his post about information on the delays to dam repair as a result of high costs. I have done a bit of research on this situation too. I'm only in Tomahawk sporadically. Is there any kind of local grass roo...

Re: Living the dream

Remember, 6 feet below full is the maximum level that can be achieved. The dam is required to maintain a constant minimum outflow too. They can't simply close the dam to maintain 6 feet low. What this means is there has to be at least as much rain coming/draining into the flowage as there is outflow...

Spirit River Dam

Does anyone know the status of the Spirit River Dam? The water appears to have been down all summer. I have heard that the Dam needs repairs but that the owner (Wi Valley Improvement ???) is unwilling to repair it. Of course this is all rumor and I have no idea what's actually really going on. Can a...

Re: Gun Control Law Proposals

I'm extremely defensive of the right to keep and bear arms. Maybe you are, but your consistant writings on this forum and the points you make, in my opinion, do not support such a statement. I really don't think I'm alone either. I don't understand how you can say such a thing while supporting ever...

Source please. I suspect this is another one of those items presented with "only half of the truth" provided. It's been widely reported recently but here's one source http://host.madison.com/wsj/news/opinion/editorial/screen-all-gun-sales-for-safety/article_f8a1b7d3-7d78-5a27-bffe-910d3df...

That was not ment to be a discription of yourself, but more a whimsical analogy of the resistance to resonable changes in our society put forth by what I perseive as the majority of our elderly citizens. If you are not in that catagory, great! I mean you no disrespect personally. I'm just glad you d...

Re: ATV's on the streets

River Rat What I see is a total lack of understanding on your part of the points we are trying to make. I read all the "points" being made, I understand how silly they are. All the points made also apply to Hugodog's bicycle: He dosn't need insurace to ride his bike on the street. None of...

Re: ATV's on the streets

Does anyone see a problem here? I sure do, intolerance and a lack of understanding on your part. I'm so dang sick of the attitude that "If I don't like it, understand it, or participate in it.......than you can't do it." There is a 99.999% chance that I will never ride on an ATV on a Toma...

Hey, you want a "normal" rifle, fine by me. Honest question for you: If my rifle was .22 caliber, had open rear and front sights, had a positive "on-off" safety, had a detachable box magazine that held 7 rounds, had plastic forearm and stock, and was semi-auto.....would that be ...

why can rifle hunters enter woods w/practically unlimited ammo when waterfowl hunters are limited to three shells in shotgun? Most honest people will follow the law, but do you seriously believe that anyone with criminal intent is going to submit to a background check. That's the thing, they DO, well some of them anyway. In the last 10 years there have been 987,578 denials of the NICS background check. Of those, 577,814 h...

Re: Gun Control Law Proposals

Thank you, President Obama, for pursuing common sense reforms to help protect Americans being slaughtered by military style assault rifles that have no place in civilian life. Re: Gun Control Law Proposals

Does the OP really, truly, deep in his gut believe that his proposals 1-5 will prevent another Sandy Hook? I can't see how anyone could think they would. Wimpy little cable locks and making a deer hunter wait 48 hours to get his .270 aint going to do it. Neither is closing the so called "gun sh...

3. All gun sales, personal or private, must follow a 48 hour waiting period. This will help ensure someone considering harming someone else, under the influence of any drugs or alcohol, suicidal, etc. does not have immediate access to a firearm they don't already own. That's a cleaver way to say yo...

Renee, you seem like a compassionate person, however you are sadly missinformed on the reality of foot-hold traps. They're not inhumane nor cruel. Todays traps have wide, flat jaw faces that are designed to eliminate injury. I encouage you to keep an open mind and google "destroying the myth.&q...

And for the stop sign comment. You ripped into me for saying the law "required" people to buy insurance. I'm simply pointing out the law requires you to do something in the same way street laws do. You either do it, or you pay the fine (tax). You are "required" to do both, and i...

The Cigarette tax is a tax paid by those who choose to pay it. It isn't mandatory that a person pays this tax. They can quit smoking a never pay a cent in taxes. Furthermore, the act of smoking is not taxed. The choice to smoke is not taxed. A person can grow and roll their own and not give the gove...

Apparently some people still have no idea what is in the new Health Care Law. They didn't nationalize anything. One of it's biggest provisions is that people are finally REQUIRED to buy health insurance. Everyone uses health care sooner or later, I have no problem with requiring that people be able...

9,416 ads without a plan and without a message. Had it been 30,000 ads it wouldn't have mattered. Simply smeering your opponent by distorting facts is not enough. It makes one appear as a complainer, whiner, and weak.
