Re: Dumping Junk

I feel your pain here. Not only are they too cheap to take it to a dumpster, they make it an environmental hazard for many years, as unlike you, many never clean it up and it breaks down and leaches into the soil and groundwater, animals may eat parts of it. That stuff will last for centuries You wi...

Re: Skatepark Please

The skatepark was well after my Tomahawk days, however I think if you wanted to restore anything like that in my opinion, would be to initiate some interest from younger groups, boy and girl scouts, school clubs, perhaps some weekend warrior types who like to partake. I think these things fall apart...

Re: signs in town of skanawan

I have no idea, but my guess is that whoever lives in that area and uses the roads there does not want to see a bunch of dump trucks going back and forth and creating a lot of dust in the area, pot holes. Perhaps their "peace and quiet" would be disturbed. I wouldn't like it. I lived near ...

Love the front page photo..what are

Can't help but smile and get a happy heart when I see that picture, but what are the birds in the background? They look like wild turkeys, no one seemed to mention them. It looks like a great place to live for wildlife. Kuddo's to the property owner. :D

Re: Wolf rules

If you don't like the wolves, move out of the country. If you don't like ducks, don't live by the lake...I am pretty sure, wolves do not want to intrude on your homes, they hunt deer, rabbits, squirrel, and I am pretty sure would take seclusion over your backyard anyday. Maybe quit over hunting the ...

Re: Are we at war with Islam

Just going to throw my .02 in the ring. Really, in every event of war we were fighting against a country not a group of people. ISIS is not a country, they hold no land, just a bunch of radical nomads with money, power, invading weaker countries, recruiting people who are fed up with their own count...

Re: Looking for Nibler Family information

Hi Ross, If you google "Is there a way to search obituaries nationwide" a bunch of websites pop up that may help you. They search literally millions of papers worldwide for you, just narrow down your criteria I would imagine. Ancestry.com is also a pretty good resource for certian things. ...

Re: Nursing Homes experiences

http://www.seniorhomes.com/p/nursing-home-facilities/ I thought this was sort of humorous. I guess they never been to Golden Age! In my opinion, I think the money taken in far outweighs any fines that have to be paid out, and also less than the cost of hiring people who care who deserve to earn more...

Re: Tomahawk Chamber of Commerce

I agree Kerry, It seem like no love lost between the 2 cities. I think the worst thing that happened to Tomahawk was the 1983 bypass. Before then, and the way I remember Tomahawk, all traffic went right through downtown. People stopped to eat lunch, take a break to stretch their legs, gas up the car...

Re: Tomahawk Chamber of Commerce

If you go to the Tomahawk Website "gototomahawk.com", you have to search for the museum under Misc.(which displays slot machines) and then there is no link or pictures of it. Why is that? How hard is it to advertise this on a website already established and upload a few pictures of it, or ...

Can Tomahawk be reborn again?

Has anyone thought about restoring Tomahawk to the days of yester years? I remember growing up, and Bradley Park was a big attraction. You couldn't even find a vacant campsite on weekends in the summer. They had the pavilions going, information booth upon driving in, concession stands, gorgeous hiki...

Re: Tomahawk Chamber of Commerce

I didn't mention anything about putting it in Merrill. It is really about education and history of the Tomahawk area, what difference does it make where it goes as long as people go and see it and make it in a place people have access to and visit, and want to go to over and over again? Advertise it...

Re: Tomahawk Chamber of Commerce

Just a thought, but combine Merrill and Tomahawk and surrounding "Lincoln County" cities and just call it the "Lincoln County Museum" Sort of seems silly to have these little places open a few hours a day a few days a week, and could ban together and place the museum in a great l...

Re: Nursing Homes experiences

I think it is the lack of outside monitoring from the general public. I have been in good and bad nursing homes over the years. The "good ones" get a lot of guests, visitors, family members, people who visit their loved ones, fresh air, gardens, music even a cat or 2 roaming the halls. The...

Re: "When you have no hope" ... continued

It is tragic all of the events happening in the middle east. Israel absolutely has a right to defend and destroy the tunnels from the Hamas group tunneling under the borders trying to destroy them. The problem does not lie with the Gaza people per say, the Hamas violently overthrew their government ...

Lake Mohawksin Monster 40 yrs later has a name

Going down memory lane, I remember about 1972, I had been fishing in Arrowhead Bay off Lake Mohawksin in the back of our house on Pleasant Ave. Among the pan fish, and mostly weeds, wrapped around my bobber was this “ skinny black thing”. It was about 15” long or so, very thin like buttonhole thread...

What ever happened to Fulsher School?

I went down memory lane in the Historical Society, and was so disappointed I didn't see any mention or pictures of Fulsher School. I went to the little brick school house grades 2-4; Mrs. Allard, Miss Tuttle and Mr. Kolasa...(years 1968-71) We had the cafeteria with homemade food in the basement, an...

Re: School days

I really don't think you get it. :| It is about saving the school district "money". It is much more cost effective to keep the kids a few extra minutes per day to meet the set government standards for required school hours than to open a school for 6 extra days and pay for teachers, busses...

Re: Looking for an Obituary

Just my opinion, but I don't think they kept that kind of records 86 years ago, in a small town, that would be open to the public for searching. The newspaper records were long before micro film and such, so I do not think you will find anything from then in this day and age. I think your only recou...

Re: Pansy deer hunters

You can compare it to "ice fishing for deer" Ice fishing you cut a hole in the ice and wait for the fish to come to you, and here you place the corn or apples out and wait. Same thing, no challenge. Then if they injure one, some are too lazy to even track them and let them suffer a slow de...

Not sure about Russia but many schools in the USA have year round schools, but I don't think they go 6 days however. I do know that in Italy, your child keeps the same teacher from kindergarten through grade 12. The teacher keeps the same group of children throughout the entire process and is traine...

Re: School days

It's really not about the teacher's pay, it is the cost of opening a school 5 extra days. How many busses to pick up and drop off, how many extra lunches to pay for, how much to keep the building open as far as heating/cooling, lights, maintenance people, lunch ladies, security and who ever else wor...
