Re: Moving Back

By law all Wisconsin businesses are smoke free now. If they allow smoking, it's illegal. Welcome home! Thanks Kerry, I thought that was the law but I wasn't sure. Maybe I'll even be able to enjoy a meal at the Silver Birch without my eyes and bronchi swelling shut. Actually, welcome home would be i...

Moving Back

I am moving back to Tomahawk in May. I love the Twin Cities but it's too expensive for my social security income. I have grandchildren in both places. I'll be looking for a book club to join. If anyone knows of one let me know. I'm looking forward to being involved with the swim club. I will probabl...

Re: Golden Eagles on the Jersey

I saw some golden eagles on the Mississippi south of Lake City, MN, near Reed's Landing. There are more than a hundred bald eagles wintering there, and a few goldens.

Now Old Scout, weren't you ever in the military? Maybe not the USMC though.

This is my rifle, this is my gun. One is for shooting, sand one is for fun.

Golden Eagles on the Jersey

I was at North Bay Pharmacy the other day, visiting with Dee. A woman came in, bought a few items, and as Dee was checking her out we got to talking. She said she lives out on the Jersey and there are golden eagles nesting. I didn't believe her but wasn't going to argue with a stranger when I didn't...

Re: State Budget, State Workers

Maybe tomorrow I'll go down to SARA Park and listen to Mrs. Swenty rage about how bad she and her school principle husband have it on their $200,000 per year income and benifit package. So sad. Didn't you learn in grade school that the school principal is your pal? One hopes that most principals ha...

Ben Franklin Store

Tomahawk's Ben Franklin store has the best selection of jigsaw puzzles, better than anything I've found in the Twin Cities. I always buy my puzzles there.

Sixty Pencils?

Why does a first grader need SIXTY number 2 pencils? Each 1st grader in my grand-daughter's class, at Tomahawk Grade School, is to bring in 60 pencils. Won't that last each of them through college?

Re: Typo the Tomahawk Leader Office Cat:

That most important question of how many cats are in your household wasn’t even asked! I agree. I have 5 cats: Wexford, Kilkenny, Donegal, Galway, and Clare. Can you guess their nationality? I am disappointed in the census, it's going to be a very boring one for genealogists when it is released in ...

New Marathon County Surveyor

Congratulations to my daughter, Emily Pierce, named today as the new County Surveyor for Marathon County. She will be sworn in on November 16th. On that day, she will be taking an official oath at the County Clerk's office to support and uphold the US and State constitutions and the duties as prescr...

Re: Peace prize & movie

I was surprised that Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize since he hasn't done anything in the peace department yet. And the nominations had to be in in Feb, when he'd been President for something like 12 days. I think he too was surprised.

I don't waste my money on Michael Moore movies.

Well, if the pubs in Ireland can go smoke free, as they did about 5 years ago, I am sure the bars in Tomahawk will survive.

I see someone gave a link to my flickr site.I'll upload some Tomahawk photos after the visit.

>>>Was justice served?<<< No, it wasn't. A young person is dead. If a person did not follow through on the light sentence given then sorry, the felony goes back on the record and he does time. Does he need to contribute to the death of yet another person? Or kill someone with his choice to drink and...

Are travel plans for them summer being modified? Mine are. I'm planning a few trips within Minnesota and western Wisconsin, places I can get to on less than a tank of gas. I plan to take my grandson and 2 of his friends to the caves near Spring Valley, WI. Then up to Duluth. There are some caves in...
