Re: Boy Scout decision on membership

Deb, I think it is great that you were involved for a time in the program as they can always use leaders. In contrast, I have been involved with scouting in one capacity or another for over 50 years and have seen a lot of changes, some good, some not so good. So yes, when it comes to Boy Scouts, I d...

All this great advice and words of wisdom from people who have never been involved with the program.

Re: Boy Scout decision on membership

If they are interested in boys they may not be openly gay, but I certainly would not consider them straight. Calling pedophiles straight is just another way of describing a closet gay that has just managed to hide it for a long time and took advantage of the opportunity. Scouting has worked hard for...

Re: Boy Scout decision on membership

Obviously people who know nothing about the program or were not able to handle being a scout.

I wonder how you would feel knowing that your son was sharing a tent on a campout with a boy who was interested in other boys. I have no doubt that a lot of parents will have this concern.

Boy Scout decision on membership

Any organization that is willing to get rid of its basic foundation principles just because they are not popular with a very small vocal group of misguided individuals does not deserve to have custody of our youth. Now that they have made the mistake of throwing away their principles and values This...

Re: Gun Control Law Proposals

As for the Gov. buying all the ammunition, within days of the shooting out at Sandy Hook, and the subject of gun control was brought up ammunition was flying off the shelves. A friend of mine in Austin, TX was telling me that within days the shelves were either empty or ammunition was being rationed...

Kerry wrote; Tom, I considered joining the NRA multiple times and each and every time I've decided against it. The NRA has gotten too extreme in my personal opinion and therefore I won't support their organization. Since it's estimated that somewhere between 43-55 million households in the US have a...

Re: ATV's on the streets

Not everyone makes a weekend of watching Lawrence Welk on PBS, and going to bed at 8:00pm. Fuddie-duddiness, plan and simple. Considering that you don't know me I will ignore such a dumb comment as due to you having a lack of any intelligent argument. I have probably been more places and done more ...

Re: ATV's on the streets

Does anyone see a problem here? I sure do, intolerance and a lack of understanding on your part. River Rat What I see is a total lack of understanding on your part of the points we are trying to make. And what makes you think that there is any common sense involved in this decision. All that is dri...

Re: ATV's on the streets

One of the big concerns about ATVs in the downtown is, according to city ordinance, ATVs are required to travel to the far right of paved streets, which motorcycles are not. This means ATVs will be "hugging" the bumpers of diagonally parked vehicles when they navigate the downtown. Whethe...

Re: ATV's on the streets

Frankly Kerry, we can argue this all day and play what if games till the cows come home. This has nothing to do with mopeds, or motorcycles. The bottom line is these machines were never designed or intended for use on the street or highway and they don't belong there. That's all I have to say about ...

Re: ATV's on the streets

Quote: I can just see someone backing out of a parking place on Wis. Ave. and not being able to see the dang thing and hitting or being hit by one. While most of the ATVs I deal with are the larger "work" kind, they have all been single passenger models that are larger than my motorcycle ...

ATV's on the streets

I see the city is looking at opening more streets to ATV's. I sometimes wonder when vehicles that were designed and intended to be used in the woods or on the farm for work vehicles suddenly became something to drive to town to do your shopping. I can see having a couple of access points to get out ...

Changes in the electoral college vote

What do you all think of the changes that some states are making in the way the electoral college votes are counted ? I am thinking it might be an improvement as that way your vote might count more. In the case of Wis. the more populated southern part of the state and particularly Madison and Milwau...

Re: Gun Control Law Proposals

I really get a chuckle from reading all the media stories and comments regarding gun control. The liberal press and gun control advocates don't have any good logical argument as to why more laws are needed so they resort to comments using the terms "gun nut", "crazies" etc. I gue...

Re: Gun Control Law Proposals

When waterfowl hunting you are limited to the number of rounds you can have in your gun at any given time. Most Semi-auto and Slide action shotguns hold 5-6 rounds and therefore hunters insert a plug, commonly a wooden dowel the length of the rounds that you need to keep from loading into the magazi...

Back in the late 80's, (I don't remember the exact year) my wife saw one cross our back yard about 200 ft. from the house. We live west of town on the south side of the Spirit. I wasn't home at the time and was skeptical until about two days later when I got home from fishing and while I was putting...

Gas tax and registration

I just read this on the TV 12 news site. A report to state lawmakers will recommend increasing the gas tax and raising vehicle registration and driver's license fees. The report to be delivered next week will include those options and others as a way to close the state's two billion dollar transport...
