Re: Spirit River Dam

There is a crane and so other equipment parked in the lot by the dam so they must plan on doing something. Maybe, or it might just be a decoy to keep us guessing.

Re: Lincoln Hills

Well the aclu is sticking it's nose into things again. I can't believe that anyone would believe much of what these little darlings would say about the people who work at Lincoln Hills. They were not there because they were nice little boys and girls and when they caused problems and had to be restr...

Re: Lincoln Hills

After talking to a couple of people that work there, due to regulations the inmates are able to get away with most anything and the employees are not allowed to discipline them unless it is really serious. When the security people are attacked and have to defend, protect themselves then they get in ...

Lincoln Hills

I seem to remember that there was a juvenile corrections center in the southern part of the state. Unless my memory fails me I believe it was at a place called Wales or some such thing. It was closed to save money and because both places were only half full and the state closed the one and sent ever...

Re: Spirit River Dam

Back in the late 50's I remember a friend and I walking along the beach along the highway by the mill picking up lost fishing lures off the stumps. We were able to do that several times. Normally that is quite deep there (deep enough to sink a school bus out of sight about 10 years or so back and th...

Re: Spirit River Dam

Went past the dam today and there were some guys that appeared to be working on the problem area. Not sure what they were doing but perhaps it is a start. Over the past roughly 60 years I can recall it being drawn down close to the channel several times when there was not enough rain or snow runoff ...

ATV's on 86

I can't believe that anyone would even contemplate letting ATV's on State Hwy 86. With the traffic of the employees to the mill, the pulp trucks and semi's in and out of the mill in addition to those who live in the area and travel the hwy every day this idea is crazy. Add in the traffic on h...

Re: Harley layoffs

According to your theory, you would like to see the corporations making millions and the workers who do the actual labor to create the product making peanuts with no rights other than show up and do the work for nothing more than whatever wage the corp. feels they want to give them. The only differe...

Everything in my post is true, but you can add whatever else you would like. Your absolutely correct about the way they drive as if the laws don't apply to them. Another reason they shouldn't be on the roads. As I have said before, they were designed for off road travel and that is where they should...

Re: Harley layoffs

I would also bet that you don't remember when a normal work week was 60 + hours with no insurance, no vacation and no other benefits. You could be fired for any little reason or no reason at all if the boss didn't happen to like you. That is what you had before the unions. Now we have corporate gree...

Re: Motorcycle fatality / Fall Ride 2016

Ken, you sure hit the nail right on the head. When I had my bike, the two things I never did was drink when riding and ride without my helmet. I know people use a lot of lame excuses for not wearing one but it is just common sense. You end up head first on the pavement it is all over and so is your ...

Harley layoffs

After talking to some of the people that work at Harley-Davidson it makes me wonder where the greed and animosity toward the workers will end. They use the excuse that sales are down but they are still shipping very close to the same number of parts. The management is doing it's best to browbeat the...

Re: Wheel Tax

The registration fees go for trail development and not highways. Hey, does that mean I can drive my Jeep on their trails? :) I am glad I am not the only one who uses my ATV for what it was intended. No License, no insurance, no turn signals, no seat belts, no passenger protection, yes they are real ...

A bit of a difference. They are not motor vehicles. Perhaps I could call my Jeep an ATV and then I wouldn't have to buy a license. Makes as much sense.

Wheel Tax

If the county should pass a wheel tax, would that also be applied to ATV's ? They don't pay license fees that cars and trucks pay and after all, they use the roads too and should share in the cost. This would add substantially to the amount that would come in to help pay for road maintenance.

Re: What ever happened to Fulsher School?

As I said in my earlier post, the school is in the town of Bradley and the town board would be the ones that would have to pursue this. They are the ones that set the ordinances for the town. I don't believe the county would get involved unless it was requested by the town of Bradley. Unless they ge...

Re: What ever happened to Fulsher School?

The School is in the town of Bradley and was owned by the school district. A while after it was closed it was put up for sale and is now owned by a private party and is leased to the guy that has turned it into a junk yard. At least that is the information I have heard.

I know several people who have worked there and some who are currently working there. The stories I have heard about the inmates (yes that is what they are) make me wonder what the people in Madison are thinking. Have they ever been there to see what the staff is dealing with. A slap on the hand and...

Re: What ever happened to Fulsher School?

When you mention Mr. Ruprecht it brings back some fine memories of my favorite teacher. I had him for for 6th thru 8th grades. This was back in 56 thru 59. Those were some of the best years of school as far as I am concerned.

We need another gas station like we need another hole in the head. What we do need is Ben Franklin and the other businesses. The way I see it is that the almighty dollar is driving the entire deal. It is better to shut down 5 businesses and make a bunch of money than to spend some to maintain the cu...

Re: What ever happened to Fulsher School?

The Fulsher School is in such bad shape that the best thing that could be done would be to tear it down and put it out of it's misery. The roof is pretty much gone and during the day when you drive by you can see sun light shining through into the rooms. From what I hear the rooms are full of junk a...
