Wolf rules

I see that stupidity and emotion have take the place of science and logic in the battle over protecting wolves again. The sad part is that of the ones making all the fuss most don't even live in the state or area where the wolves are. What they are doing is in a way declaring war on the wolves, beca...

After reading Larry's opinion piece in this weeks leader, I have been thinking about starting a law suit myself. I think I should file a suit against the Minn. Vikings ! ! After all, my ancestors were real Vikings and when you look at the comparison between them and the football vikings you can see ...

Re: Tomahawk Chamber of Commerce

I think the worst thing that happened to Tomahawk was the 1983 bypass. Before then, and the way I remember Tomahawk, all traffic went right through downtown. People stopped to eat lunch, take a break to stretch their legs, gas up the car, now, if they are heading north, they just skip it completely...

Re: Tomahawk Chamber of Commerce

Hey Old Scout I am a volunteer. Thank you ! ! ! :D As for a sign, we are working on getting a bigger sign out in front of the museum hoping that will draw some attention. I would love to see a large free standing sign at the corner of 4th and Washington. The problem is getting the city to approve it.

Re: Tomahawk Chamber of Commerce

Apparently you have no idea how much work is involved and the hours it takes to change an exhibit. If we had twice as many volunteers it would still be a major challenge. Every spring we change the exhibits and it takes several days of work to take the old ones down and store the material then deter...

Re: Tomahawk Chamber of Commerce

if you live there and seen it already, no sense of going back. Even though people donate their time to sit and operate, there are still insurance costs, maintenance and taxes to be paid if not mistaken. Join forces and make it a really nice and interesting place people will want to visit again and ...

I guess bigtedybear isn't interested in helping !

Also, I checked and the Merrill museum which is larger and better financed is only open Tues. - Fri. from 9:00 to 1:00 pm. so I guess our hours aren't so bad.

Mitchell School

Does anyone remember when the Mitchell School out on Hwy. 86 closed. The information I have is that it was in either 1957 or 1958 but I am not sure if that is correct. I also received information that it was in the 70's so I am hoping someone that went to the school or lived in the area can help wit...

Re: What ever happened to Fulsher School?

There is a rather large picture of the Fulsher school on the north wall of the class room area and a copy of an old year book in the book rack. I am not sure if there are any other documents. You don't want to see what the old school looks like now. It has turned into a disaster area. I also attende...

Re: Tomahawk Chamber of Commerce

No wonder their hours have been cut as very few people even know it is there. Hardly worth the effort to exist now. In regards to the hours being cut, the prime reason is the lack of volunteers to act as greeters at the museum. With two museum buildings if we are open from 11:00 to 3:00 we need fou...

Re: Looking for an Obituary

The Tomahawk Leader has an archive of all the old newspapers from back to day 1. They will let you come into the office and search them for the information you are looking for. I was doing some research on WWI a couple of years back and found all of the papers from 1917 and 1918. I am sure you would...

Re: School days

Actually you are missing my point. The original point of this post was that I feel that the 10 minutes a day to make up 5 days is a joke. 10 minutes isn't going to make a bit of difference whether they are there for 7 periods or if it was 5 periods. Taking away 5 days in exchange for 10 minutes make...

Re: School days

7 class periods, 10 minutes per day amounts to 1.43 minutes per class period. :? I am sure a lot will be accomplished in that amount of time. yes the 7 period day will help but that extra 1.43 minute is still a joke when it comes to making up the lost time. As for the last 5 days being wasted with e...

Among the numerous bills signed into law by the governor yesterday was one that removes the 180 day instructional requirement for school districts. The requirement will now be based on instructional hours, which was seen as a positive for rural school districts. Tomahawk District Administrator Sher...

Another down side to only having one pharmacy in town is that in the past where it took 20 min. or so to get a prescription it now takes an hour or you might have to stop back the next day. With everyone having to go to the one place they are swamped. Had a prescription called in by the Doc. this mo...

I have to agree with Jim on this one. I started hunting in the late 50's and remember when we spent the day driving one piece of woods after another. We actually went looking for deer rather than letting them come to us. Now all you see is guys sitting in a tree stand over a pile of corn. Not a whol...

Heard earlier today the Farmer's Almanac is predicting this winter will be long and one of the coldest on record. From the way things have started, it certainly appears that could be the case.

Now how does that fit in with global warming.

Re: Lost Dog

Being from Florida, I know of a few hunters who use dogs to hunt and track the wild hogs down here, along with other animals in a pack setting. If the dog doesn't track, is slow or late in returning, many times they leave them, or even shoot them in the woods. It is horrific, and not saying that th...

I can't believe that the person from TN was given a citation for allowing his dog to roam free. When you are hunting with a dog it is allowed to run, that is how they find birds. He was searching for the dog until he had to leave for home. It is not like he just turned it loose, let it run and decid...
