Re: Mary's Diner

I may be mistaken, but I thought the first Mary's Diner was in the area where the Auto Stop is now, on the NE corner of the stop lights. I remember going there when I was in High School in the 60's. :)

Re: Greed at the fall ride !

Sorry JFlosum, I hate to burst you bubble but I said nothing about hateing the fall ride. If you want to start a club you will have to do it on your own. Actually I really enjoy that weekend. I meet a lot of real nice people and have a good time attending the events. I guess I am just old fashioned,...

Re: Greed at the fall ride !

Just FYI, Local nonprofit groups do not have to pay to set up at Sara park !! After the expenses of purchasing their product and supplies the rest is profit. I still think they are being greedy.

Greed at the fall ride !

I was at Sara park today and I can't believe the way that some of the local organizations rape the visitors that come for the event. I took a walk around and was going to buy a soda to drink while I checked out the displays. I couldn't believe that one of the local groups was charging $2.00 for a ca...

Re: The best rootbeer???

I have tried Root beer all over the country and non of them can beat the A&W Root beer that we used to get at the old stand on the corner of 4th and Washington. Dog and Suds is good but runs a distant 2nd. :) [ August 30, 2003, 12:32 PM: Message edited by: Old Scout ]

Thanks Brian, I have had that save for a long time and had no clue where it came from. I just saved it because I like what it said. :)

Smart, Dumb, or indifferent, I still believe in individual freedom to make your own decisions without some lawmaker or do-gooder looking over your shoulder telling you every move to make. It just iritates me that every time a group of people decide they don't like some thing or don't agree with what...

Jeff, I ran across that quote some time back and saved it because it seemed to hit the nail on the head as far as life was concerned. I can't recall where I found it and there was no name on it. :)

This is no different than all the trash you see along the Highway. It is just too much effort for lazy slobs to dispose of it properly.

Which brings up the point of why are the da** fools following so da** close in the first place. I am often temped to hit the brakes just to see how good some of these idiots reflexes are. The whole problem is that most drivers have no concept of the term "Common sense" and how it applies t...

Re: Driving

I have another one to add to the list of stupid things people do when they are driving. The past two weeks the county has been working on resurfacing Co. E and Co. O. It's bad enough to have to drive on gravel with the dust but there are people that seem to think that there is no reason to slow down...

Re: Kids on Main Street

I guess I never got into hanging out on the street corners. But then in the early sixties, we had the upstairs at the Bowling Alley, The Hole (what memories), the old A&W when it was a Root Beer stand and even the old, Mary's Diner. I guess I can see why the kids are hanging out there, even if i...

Another thing that people need to learn is that the right side mirror,(the one that says "objects in the mirror are closer than they appear") will get you in trouble when you are passing and pull back into your lane as soon as you can see the other car in that mirror. I just came back from...

Re: Tomahawk National Guard

Yesterday our local National Guard unit left for Fort McCoy. They will be there for a short time and then will probably be sent to the war zone. This will be a tough time for the families left behind to wait and wonder about the fate of their loved ones. The American Legion is in the process of sett...

Re: Has Bush put his presidency on the line?

To get back to the original reason for this thread. A friend of mine brought up an interesting point about why Germany and France don't want us to go into Iraq. There have been rumors for a long time about other countries selling equipment and technology to Iraq. What don't the french and germans wa...

I heard over the weekend that the 724th Engineer Bn. Wis. National Guard, has been activated for overseas duty. This includes the units in Tomahawk, Rhinelander, Medford, Ashland, Hayward, and Superior. Please keep these soldiers in your thoughts and prays as they leave their families to do their mi...
