Re: School budget crisis

Too bad bubba'smomma you feel the way you do. I would say you are folks with " big town" attitudes, that try to make a big town out of a small town. Most of us that have relocated here have done so knowing what is offered here and what isn't offered. As far as the school is concerned, ther...

Re: Happy Valentines Day!!

No flowers this year, although I did get a bouquet of 3 roses during a dinner while on a recent trip to Mexico. Flowers are sure cheap south of the border, 20 pesos, an equivalent of $2.00. Most likely I won't see flowers for a couple of years. However, I was surprised with a TV for my workout area....

Re: School budget crisis

Some great points have been made and some great ideas for cutting costs. As far as extra-curricular activities are concerned, I agree that an activity fee would be in order, however as whiterino 13 stated more than a pair of Nike's would be a reality check for students and parents. Nothing could be ...

Re: Holiday Spirit???

Things have certainly changed! Not always for the better. Twelve years ago when we first moved to Tomahawk my dad was excited to come and visit during the Christmas season because of the downtown lighting. If he were alive today I know exactly what he would be saying, however it wouldn't be printabl...

Re: Homeland Security

Could it be Marty that you are nervous because it feels as if "Big Brother" is looking over our shoulders? I think this whole thing is making the USA the laughing stock of the rest of the world. Tell me how lush expensive office buildings make our country safer.

Re: Homeland Security

It is suppose to be the security that keeps our homeland safe. Does it really exist? I think our polititions are spending much of our tax dollars to make us think that it does exist. Personally, I think we are pretty wide open to further acts of terrorism. <small>[ November 24, 2002, 06:23 PM: Messa...

Yes, it is that time of year when collegiate hoopsters begin their seasons with midnight madness. Go Viterbo V-Hawks, UW-Marathan Huskies, and UW-LaCrosse Lady Eagles.

Nell, it's great to see that with all you are going through your wit is still razor sharp. JKR, I have to disagree on the watching the Packer game thing with the autumn leaves falling all around, TVs while camping, there is no greater camping sin!! The part about fall camping and just snuggling clos...

Re: Favorite Things!

Jeff, you will need to check to see which state forest campgrounds remain open after Labor
Day. We have never camped past Labor Day, but may this year. The tent is now a thing of the past, for us, we went with a plain Jane "pop-up" . Old folks need to be up off the ground.

Re: Favorite Things!

Jeff, what a neat story. Our guys never caught big muskies, but we do have fond memories of some whopper bluegills. Regarding the state forest campground, some are on lakes that do allow jet skis, however we've never had a problem with them or skiers in the evening hours. You are right there are som...

Re: Favorite Things!

FYI Jeff, the lakes in the Tomahawk area (I'm sure the one pat lives on is one of them), that have the jet ski ordinances are usually those that don't have much for rentals on them. Most likely no rentals. Have you tried Somo Lake? I don't know what the laws are out there. My get- a-way is a State F...

Re: Favorite Things!

Crushing blows to the ego's of Tomahawkians. Somewhere cheaper and quieter than our fair hamlet? How can it be? Found a place this past week with NO jet skis and the cost for four nights was only $38.00. Sad but true those of us in the beautiful north woods need a vacation spot too.

Re: Must be credence to cougar claims

If the DNR says it ain't so then for sure cougars must be roaming our north woods. Case in point deer population numbers over past years.

Re: Outside set of eyes

It did seem rather odd that the school board elected to only interview one candidate for financial consultant. The fact that the "recently retired leader" was not a consideration is not at all a surprise, to me anyway. Although very capable and knowledgable with the school district's finan...

Re: Favorite Things!

What's so great about Tomahawk...! It seems to me that even newcomers are considered part of the community. Although many people are "lifers" here I think we are a very diverse community, with many folks, such as my family, coming from other places to make Tomahawk home. From the start I f...

Re: Bradley Park Observation Tower

First, I am not anti-snowmobiles.I realize that it helps to boost our economy. Secondly, Fushia reread my post, I was not "lumping" together snowmobilers, I stated that those leaving behind the mess are a minority.I realize that most snowmobilers are families and don't create problems. Thi...

Re: Bradley Park Observation Tower

You are absolutely right Old Scout, there are many other alternative routes that could be accessed by the snowmobile clubs for trails. Bradley Park or any other park for that matter, should not have a trail running through them. I've walked these trails in the winter and I have seen what some snowmo...

Re: Bradley Park Observation Tower

I like the idea of keeping the snowmobiles out of Bradley Park and it would be a great idea to get the cross country ski trails back in shape, (some of the old marker signs are still on the trails). By getting the trails in shape it could serve a two fold purpose, the trails would be marked and meas...

Re: Bradley Park Observation Tower

OK Brian, where do you propose this tower be located at Bradley Park. Before an observation tower, or maybe in conjuction with,I feel the trails for walking need to be marked and measured loops should be designated. Get the people in shape before climbing that tower. :) Maybe the city could be persu...
