Just thought I would throw out a quick note to anyone thinking about a new computer. Apple announced an entry level Mac today that destroys one of the biggest claims about Mac's, "They're too expensive." It starts at $499.
Throw in that there are basically zero viruses and spyware for the operating system, it includes what is considered the best user level photo, movie and music software, and can run Microsoft Office just like your PC (must be purchased) and it takes up almost no space on your desk and it's worth a look.
For those that are interested in music they also introduced a $99 iPod.
In addition, Apple does make "real computers". They power two of the worlds fastest super computer clusters (with the same machines you can buy off their web page). There are more than 10,000 applications made for OS X (Apple's operating system) and Mac's are found in some of the most resource demanding environments you can find including animation, science and rendering.
If your interested visit http://www.apple.com.
Just a thought from a happy PowerBook and iPod owner that supports the Leader's computers and Gannett's computers (the largest newspaper company in the US). Heck, even this web page was designed and built on a Mac...
