"When you have no hope" ... continued

Postby Bernie Lyngdal » Wed Aug 06, 2014 10:18 am

Certainly, the situation in the Middle East is ugly (see Diana C Smith's message "When you have no hope" in the August 5 Reader Opinion area). However, any submission that omits pertinent information runs the risk of advocating one while denigrating the other. For instance, Israel has diplomatic relations with 159 nations. This number includes Egypt and Jordan but no other Arab countries. In fact, the other Arab nations do not even allow for the physical existence of Israel. When one lives in a dangerous neighborhood where most are dedicated to your elimination, you might find it necessary to be very robust in defense of your existence.
The freely elected government of Gaza, Hamas, per the BBC, Under the group's charter, Hamas is committed to the destruction of Israel.
Would anybody seriously consider telling the people of Tomahawk to leave all of their doors unlocked and open 24 hours a day to eliminate conflict with any who covet their goods and possessions? If not, how can we in safe Tomahawk advise those in Israel to open their doors to Hamas?

It is tragic all of the events happening in the middle east. Israel absolutely has a right to defend and destroy the tunnels from the Hamas group tunneling under the borders trying to destroy them. The problem does not lie with the Gaza people per say, the Hamas violently overthrew their government back in June 2007, and have exploited their power and authority ever since, and has expanded outward to gain more land and intimidate. They are a terrorist group, and should be looked at as such by the rest of the world. This has been on ongoing thing ever few years, and it will have to come to a point to either completely destroy Hamas, or seal their borders up once and for all to not allow anyone to tunnel or cross over the top.
Hamas is a militant Islamic fundamentalist political movement that opposes peace with Israel and uses terrorism as a weapon; seeks to create an Islamic state in place of Israel; is opposed to the PLO and has become a leading perpetrator of terrorist activity in Israel; pioneered suicide bombing. I am pretty sure the Gaza people would like peace as well, but being controlled by this militant terrorist group, their fate is sealed unless they themselves revolt and try and put an end to this internally.
