my daughter graduated in May of this year - the seniors were told that riding in the back of vehicle was forbidden this year ( which was always a tradition) therefore it was not done. However, watching the Homecoming parade this year & after school was out for the day, many (ALLOT of) students were seen in the back of vehicles. I believe there was trouble a couple of years ago w/this tradition but, if it was banned for a big event like graduation, I feel Homecoming should have been banned too. Graduation is a very significant ending/beginning if thier lives & a tradition that was allowed with other classes, should have been allowed - OR the ban should have stayed for All events until it was fully explained as to why it would be allowed this year.

I agree.. either ban it, or allow it.

Big, little, or medium event, it is very dangerous and tragic, when someone bails over the side when the driver makes a turn. A girl was seriously injured in Merrill when she fell off the back of a pick-up. I always thought there was a law about riding in the back. Something to the effect of having to have your butt on the deck and not up on the side rail. Even tho that happened in Merrill in the past, I did see all the pick-ups at this years Merrill Homecoming full of kids riding on the rails. The way they were partying and not even holding on, it would be very easy to topple backwards onto the pavement with serious head injury.
Any teen agers reading this, please be careful and smart. We need you, because some day you're gonna be running things. Best not from a wheel chair blowing on a straw to move it.

I too think it should be banned altogether. I thought there was some kind of law or ordinance or something too. I seem to remember it is allowed on the farm for farm workers - don't really know though. It was just unfair to ban it for one class/event & not all. I hope they ban it for everything.

Either allow it or ban it, but for EVERYTHING..

In Arizona, it's perfectly common to see 1/3 of all trucks on the major interstate highway's.. carrying a full capacity (or MORE) of people in the bed at 70 miles/hr.

Scary, but true..
