The feathers were removed from the Hatchet logo a number of years ago as requested by the DPI, if memory serves me correctly. My question is, did the Native American groups actually do DNA testing on those feathers to see if they were those of an eagle? Hmmm!!!

:) I was always "proud" of a name of my high school team logo etc. I used to "assume" it was something to be proud of and stand up for until all of the controversy started about logos etc.
Why would we choose a logo if we thought it was derogatory to represent our school and teams? If a school chooses Indian names, it means they are proud of the name, but guess they don't see it as such. If we picked the Germans..or some use Fighting Irish...why is that different? Guess all is ok for Tomahawk for awhile until it all starts up again. Peace be with you and yours. :)

Since the school teams were named Hatchets in a nod to the CITY'S name, wouldn't it make as much sense to change "Tomahawk" to something slightly less racist? Say, "Hammer" or "Torque Wrench"?

I kinda like Torque Wrench, Wisconsin. Has a nice ring to it.

Deb Richardson had it right on the first reply, "What a waste of taxpayer money." Elizabeth Burmaster, the State Superintendent, is an idiot. Just another WEAC stooge put in place to rip off the property tax payers of this state. If anyone thinks were not being ripped off, just ask a recent high school graduate to hand write you a one page narrative on any subject, then read it if you can.

So, your complaint is what? Some students' sloppy handwriting or your eyesight?
