Post Pulling....

I'm making some guesses here, the details might not be exact but the general idea of what I have to say is correct.....
In the last day or two the Message Board editor has pulled a couple of postings. I think I know why...I'm guessing they might have encroached into the area of sounding like a Want Ad.

My gripe is that I, being one of those who replied to the post, wasn't told why the posting was pulled or that it was going to be pulled. The editor may have had a valid reason for pulling it but it would have been nice to have been told the reason.

Since the idea of the Message Board is to generate thought and interest among those using it the idea of a posting being pulled without an explanation doesn't sit right with me.

If that's the case, why not have a community "help wanted" sector?

I did pull one thread because after some debate it was determined that it was too much like a want ad. I think it is the first thread that has been removed in quite awhile.

Unless someone posted a reply while I was debating and sending a private message to the user explaining the reason for removal there were not any replies when I deleted the topic.

As has been discussed before this website is not profitable at this point. We continue to run it as much as a community service as anything else and therefor we cannot allow the website to be used in a way that detracts from the business that actually pays the bills. That's why you won't see a Help Wanted section on this website other than in the classifieds area and why we are careful about the links that are allowed to be posted on the website.

I apologize if your post was deleted when the thread was removed but I did send a note to the poster and when I looked at it there wasn't a reply.

Kerry, thank you for your reply and explanation. I'm glad to hear that you contacted the poster and looked to see if there were replies to the first thread and that there was thought behind the pulling...that's important to me.

I don't know what happened to it but there really was a (second) thread following the one you pulled with a couple (I believe) posts to it. Mine was one of them. This second thread disappeared shortly after the first was pulled. It was a thread that discussed the pulling of the first. It also had in it the same type of information, I'm guessing here, that you considered to be like a Want Ad that was in the first thread.

I'm also guessing that the second thread was pulled by mistake because of it's 'association' with the first...things happen. I don't believe the second thread was pulled on purpose out of spite.

About Want Ads, or things sounding like them, I have to agree with you (this time) much as I sympathize with the person who posted the first thread.

Maybe that posting could have been worded differently....

Hmm, not sure what would have happened to a thread questioning the removal. There isn't any system that pulls threads based on association or anything like that and I didn't remove anything.

Were you the poster? If not the person who created the thread could have removed their post, which would have removed it. Other than that I'm not sure what would have happened.

As a side note: I'm still waiting for the release of a final update to different message board software that I'm hoping to migrate too. Hopefully the new software will eliminate many of the problems I'm having with this system. Primarily the fact that I'm now having to manually sort through all of the requests to register for the message board and find the few real people. We're getting about 150 spam registrations a week. It also should add some new features for message board members, etc. If you'd like to look at what I'm hoping to move to you can find information about it at phpBB.

It wasn't a "want" ad. It was a "are you able to help someone in need" ad.
I honestly do not see the difference in what I posted and what others post looking for employment. Wouldn't "those" posts infringe upon the Leader's income potential from the "help wanted" ads? I honestly didn't realize that the Leader was so hard up for money that they wouldn't allow a plea for help on the message board. I sure learned my lesson.
