Is God Really A Republican?

I proudly served my country for 3 years in the United States Army. I then proudly served my God as a church Deacon for many years. I strongly supported the first war on Iraq as the senior President Bush conducted the liberation of Kuwait legitimately, with real International support and within United Nations authority.

However, the current President Bush has invaded a sovereign nation in violation of international law, even though Saddam did not pose an immediate threat outside the borders of Iraq. I strongly oppose these actions. Because President Bush has alienated our free world allies and antagonized even moderate Muslims around the world, the world is a far more dangerous place than before the Iraq invasion.

There was a time Americans respected the opinions of those with differing political views. Today, the conservative right wing has lost that human attribute. I resent having my patriotism and may faith challenged because I oppose the policies of the President, and I will proudly vote for Senator Kerry. Obviously, I do not believe that God is a Republican, or a Democrat. Choosing the right war on terrorism is not a question of religion.

What ever. My biggest point of confusion lies with the "pro-lifers" that find no conflict in opposing abortion, but supporting the death penalty.

Dear baby:

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have
learned a great deal from you, and try to share that knowledge with as
many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual
lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly
states it to be an abomination; end of debate. I do need some advice from
you, however, regarding some other elements of God's Laws and how to
follow them.

1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and
female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine
claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify?
Why can't I own Canadians?

2. If someone wished to sell their daughter into slavery, as sanctioned
in Exodus 21:7, what do you think would be a fair price in this day and age?

3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her
period of menstrual uncleanliness (Lev. 15: 19-24). The problem is - how
do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a
pleasing odor for the Lord -- Lev. 1:9. The problem is, my neighbors
claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2
clearly states that he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to
kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it?

6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an
abomination (Lev. 11:10), it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality.
I don't agree. Can you settle this? Are there "degrees" of abomination?

7. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a
defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my
vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair
around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by
Lev.19:27. How should they appear?

9. I know from Lev. 11: 6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me
unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different
crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made out of
two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to
curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the
trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them (Lev. 24:
10-16)? Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair, as we do
with people who sleep with their in-laws (Lev. 20:14)?

I know you have studied these things extensively and thus enjoy
considerable expertise in such matters, so I am confident you can help.

Thank you, baby, for reminding us that God's word is eternal
and unchanging.

baby, your article post explains everything about what? News flash, 25 plus years ago my obstretrician told me the same thing. What does this have to do with God being a Republican?

I think she means that her mother drank heavily while 'baby' was in utero.

While this post is about God being a Republican, I'm not sure, but they do know for sure that Columbus was a Democrat.
They've concluded that when he left he didn't know where he was going, and when he got there, he didn't know where he was, and to make matters worse, he did it all with someone elses money.

So you are saying Bush is a Democrat in that he is financing his war and doing it all with someone else's money?

ODDS BODKINS! I doubt it!
Why would He let Bush slither his way into the presidency?

You know it is amazing how cyberspace seems to facilitate courage in most people who would never be able to muster it otherwise. In viewing the previous posts it is quite apparent that if all the participants were put in the same room they would likely hardly speak a word. It seems that these boards do nothing more than allow people who are normally decent, to display utterly obnoxious behavior. The Ironic thing is, I know one of the posters and I find it incredible how this individual is so unpleasant in these boards but in real life is very meek. There have been numerous times that I have contemplated joining in on a message thread but did not because the attack that would follow is not worth it. I wonder how many others do not participate for the same reason.

Good post, IAM. I could picture a couple vultures sitting up on a branch just waiting for someone to post before they started circling and pecking. Hopefully things will change.

Just a hunch...

I would bet that any divine being has little "faith" in either party since there is no "proof" that either party really has anyone but themselves at heart. They also seem to do little but offer the "Promise Land" to their followers while leaving anyone who doesn't believe in the "One True Party" out in the cold.

Divine beings also avoid the endless political babble on message boards because members of one party are always trying to "Convert" members of the other party. They firmly believe they can show everyone "The Light!"

Name the room, anonymous 'newbie', and I'll meet you there. We'll discuss courage.
