Is it just me, or was that the worst Super Bowl Half Time Show EVER!?!?

I missed it, but from all reports Janet Jackson apparently had a costume malfunction that was rather, mmmm, revealing.

What do you expect from MTV? Fortunately this was MTV's last Super Bowl show and they have no one but themselves to blame.

I wish they would just stick to football instead of always trying to top the 'extravaganza' of the year before. Having the Hall of Famers assist with the coin toss was great. Everything else before and after that was, in my opinion, either tacky, cheesy, jingoistic or crass. Maybe they really believe that anything worth doing is worth doing to excess. I prefer keeping it simple but that may just be my mid-west upbringing. So, to the powers that be in Super Bowl planning, "Hey, get over yourself."

Yes, I agree they should stick to something more closely associated with football. Like maybe they can have Jim Brown come on stage and beat the living **** out of his latest girlfriend. Or maybe O. J. can come on and demonstrate the art of slashing… or perhaps we can get a real live heroin transaction!! There are many things that the NFL can demonstrate where their players have some expertise.

Yeah I thought it was in keeping with half time extravaganzas of previous years. A bunch of over priced talent(?) jumping up &down screaming unintelligible words to a cacaphony of noise. Who plans these fiascos? Isn't that the type of music used to drive Noriega out of hiding?

Personally, I thought it was the most entertaining Superbowl halftime ever. Kid Rock was actually singing live (which I think is a first) and the Janet thing was over the top. I think by definition she wasn't technically nude due to the silver star shaped apparatus she had on covering her breast. This star shaped thingy throws serious doubt on the claims that the incident was an "malfunction" unless Janet wears these large metallic pasties 24X7. Who knows, she's a Jackson and we all know how eccentric they are right?

For the record, I am not a supporter of censorship, and I think most of us Americans are way over sensitive to nudity. HOWEVER even I think the Janet thing was inappropriate. The Superbowl is billed as a family show and there were no doubt hundreds of thousands of kids watching.

You can almost smell them lawsuits a cookin'..

Maybe Janet Jackson exposed her boob to prove that it was really her and not her brother, Micheal Jackson..................................

Dopey - during the pregame stuff I was watching people tailgating and thinking how nice some of that warmer Houston weather would feel. With all the snow and below zero temps we've had, you're missing a good old-fashioned winter back here! :D

And what`s with Kid Rock ripping a hole in the American Flag and wearing it like a poncho! Great entertainment?

Let's see...according to new reports, Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake planned their stunt at the last minute. WOW!!! Who'd of guessed that it was all planned ???? People with any real talent don't need to resort to humping each other onstage and tearing each other's clothes off. The whole half time show was nothing but a waste of time and money, in my opinion. The first two "rappers" were so lacking in any talent that I should have known better than to waste any more time watching the rest of it. And another thing, when you hear that MTV promised a "shocking" half-time performance, what do CBS executives expect? Especially when it's MTV using the word "shocking"? The words to the song Jackson and Timberlake sang were reportedly 'I'll have you naked by the end of this song'. HELLO???? Can these people put two and two together and think maybe they're going to try and pull something or is it just us backwoods hicks that got all the smarts?

How 'bout they skip all the performers and pyrotechnics next year and just go with a good ol' tractor pull? I'd suggest a naked tractor pull but then baby would lump me in with the 98% of the world she considers perverts... :p

The few commercials I saw, I can't remmember the products they were touting. Where's the Hamms bear? Anyway, the halftime programs are getting progresively worse. A reflection of our Society as a whole? Recruiting material for Jihadd.

Brian, I'll go for the tractor pull! What do you think of John Madden and say...Frank Gifford au natural? That could be a good lead-in for the Viagra commercials, possibly...

Baby -

I almost agree with you (I think). I believe that display was inappropriate for family television. When this sort of thing happens, it makes it tough for parents to select programs for their kids.

I hope my daughters achieve the level of success that Janet Jackson has. If that involved showing heir breasts, I guess I would still be very proud and supportive of them. My guess is that my daughters would never do such a thing howevever.

You were actually "embarrassed" by Janets Jackson's boob? Really? I fail to see what is so offensive or embarrassing about breasts. We've all seen them, heck most of us HAVE them permanently installed on our chests! If you are searching for spiritual guidance after seeing Janet Jacksons boob for .75 seconds, then yes, that is WAY OVERSENSITIVE.

Actually, 'naked' tractor pulls involve completely stock tractors just as they came from the factory, that is, no turbochargers or nitrous oxide or jet engines or any other modifications. But I DO like your thinking tinman! The John Madden/Frank Gifford thing would be a hoot (and yes, Viagra is a great tie-in) but would probably put a damper on hot dog sales at the stadium...

Cmoo, I have to say that I think it's sad that you seem to think anything goes as long as success follows. Call me a prude, but I'm of the mindset that leaving a little to the imagination is a good thing. No wonder people in other countries have a low opinion of Americans. If these so-called performers represent what we as a nation consider "entertainment", well, I can't blame them for considering us immoral.

Tinman,

I never said that "anything goes as long as success follows". To put my earlier post into context: Baby asked me how I would feel if MY DAUGHTER did what Janet did.

No wonder people in other countries have a low opinion of Americans. If these so-called performers represent what we as a nation consider "entertainment", well, I can't blame them for considering us immoral.
You think us Americans are immoral eh? Are you one of those people who thought the terrorists on 9/11 were justified? After all we are a nation of perverts right?

Actually no one has breasts permanently installed on their chests. I ought to know, there's this cancer called breast cancer and lots of us loose one or both breasts because of it.

As for Janet bearing her breast on stage it was inappropriate. She did it for shock value and there was no other reason. She wasn't nursing a baby, which is what breasts are for. It is hard to believe in our society that breasts were designed for one primary reason, to feed our babies. That is why we are mammals. Instead we have this perverted view of the human breast as a sex object. Why else do women willingly undergo the abuse of elective breast augmentation? It's not to nurse their babies.

Right you are NurseNell. Just when in our society did a brest become something other than what God intended it for, feeding our young. I'm sure it was long before breastfeeding was not considered vogue. I'm a few years past the breastfeeding thing, is it considered the thing to do? I did it because it was the best thing for my babies. As far as the titilation that goes along with breasts I've always been a little confussed, is a herd of grazing holsteins considered titilating?

cmoo, what level of success has Janet Jackson achieved? She's an entertainer, has she found a cure for cancer, has she maintained a monogamous long term relationship, I don't think so. Too me she's an entertainer and nothing more. She may have made a bunch of money, but at what expense. She started young and most likely never enjoyed a normal childhood. She's had numerous relationships. I certainly wouldn't want my children to achieve that level of success.

One last thought to ponder, did sibling rivalry play a part in this stunt. Janet might have been feeling pouty and wanted some of the media attention that is being showered on brother Michael.

Nell

I agree 1000%. I thought it was wholly inappropriate. I certainly didn't mean any disrespect to women or men who suffer from cancer either. I wasn't offended or embarrassed by Janet's breast however. Just posting my opinion. I was recently on the beach at St Maarten where most of the women were topless and *gasp* there were children there too.

Deb,

The question was put to me by baby asking me what I would think if it was my daughter on stage. I never said or intended to say that I wanted my daughter to be like Janet NOR did I say that I wanted her to reveal her breasts for money.
