Lake Mohawksin Lake Association

A Letter to the Editor published in the Aug. 20, 2013, Tomahawk Leader:

Soon the Friends of Lake Mohawksin will be conducting the annual meeting. Undoubtedly, again the Association will express the desire to change the organization from a “Lake Association” to a “Lake District.”

When you lakefront property owners are eventually asked to vote on this proposition, please remember the ramifications. If it would pass, you will probably be receiving a “special assessment” on your real estate tax bill, based on fair market value of your property. Also, please remember that lakefront property owners are already taxed excessively on our real estate.
The Association, at the annual meeting, will present the successes they have had in fighting the spread of Eurasian water milfoil, among other improvements and we greatly appreciate the hard work that’s been done. Let’s also report that the association has been a success. Again, a success. Why would we, as taxpayers, want to create yet another bureaucracy, and yet another potential form of taxation without representation, by forming a lake district when the Association is successful.
We realize the Association requires funding. Certainly, the Wisconsin DNR has been helpful and should continue to be demanded to be involved. It is our belief that the Association, and the community, need to find more creative methods of funding the fight against invasive species. Our personal boats, etc., do not leave Lake Mohawksin. Maybe the boaters launching at the lake boat landings, for recreational or tournament enjoyment, should be contacted? Perhaps the businesses located on and off the lake that are benefiting from the lake traffic would have some input?

Who? I believe the authors of the letter live in Tomahawk and the Lake Association is heavily supported and run by people in Tomahawk.

Who or Who-o-o is the real question. Perhaps there's an owl flying off the Left Coast of Wisconsin looking to stick it's beak into local Tomahawk politics, again. When the time comes that you start paying property taxes here hoot all you want. Excuse me I may be mistaken, but my guess the proper term for that sound from such an educated owl would be "whom," not who-o-o or hoot.

Kerry, is that "heavy support" for a Lake Association taken from the latest Tomahawk Leader poll or your best guess based on the amount of noise made by one individual?
