The following are letters were sent from soldiers in Iraq after they received holiday boxes from the community in a project spearheaded by the Tomahawk Post Office and the Tomahawk Leader:

Dear Tomahawk Community,

Hi my name is Lance Corporal Ronald J. Butler.

I am currently deployed in Al Asad, Iraq. I would like to thank the Tomahawk community, the Tomahawk Leader and the Tomahawk Postal Service for the package I received. It really means a lot to us over here to receive packages from our communities and to know that we are being thought of while we are away from our families during the holidays. May God bless all of you during the holidays and throughout the new year!

Dear (Postmaster) Teri Cernoch and Tomahawk Community,

My name is Staff Sgt. Solis, Carlos. I am currently stationed in Balad, Iraq. I have received a package from you and want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I found greeting cards and letters in the box you sent me. I want to send out thanks to all families and individuals who sent me these holiday blessings. To the women of the Wings of Faith, Devon, Darlene, Red and Bev Ingman, and Gage. I thank everyone who has contributed to myself and my soldiers.

Let me start off by telling you and everyone from the community of Tomahawk my name is SSG Solis and I have an 11 man section including myself. I have a lieutenant, two staff sergeants and seven specialists and below. Our mission out here is to provide radar operations in Balad, Iraq. We work a 24 hour operation and run two shifts of five personnel daily. We have been in-country for three months and we still have nine months left. I have soldiers here from all over the United States. I am from California, but the majority here are from Texas.

Well, a little about myself. I am originally from California, born and raised. I have been in the military for 13 years and I am an artillery man. I have been stationed in many places around the world. As for this deployment, I am stationed out from Fort Sill, Okla. I am active Army and this is my job full time. I am a single soldier and have no children of my own. I am very pleased to see that you and your community support us the way you do. I honestly can tell you, that the morale in my section has skyrocketed with all the support and letters that you have sent us.

Again, I want to say thanks to you and the community of Tomahawk. Your support and letters have greatly helped our holiday spirit. If you like, we will write back anyone who sends us mail.

Thank you,
SSG Carlos Solis
Radar Section Chief
