Headless in Wisconsin …

Postby Tomahawk Leader » Tue Jul 10, 2007 4:29 pm

A Letter to the Editor in the July 10 Tomahawk Leader:

Have you noticed all the headless whitetail deer that are being killed on our roads lately? It’s no wonder why they’re being hit by cars … they can’t see where they’re going, or hear the horn blasting.

Seriously, I’m sure this has something to do with CWD testing, which is good. I would only request that the bodies be removed from the roadside after the decapitation. I’m not suggesting that the carcasses be picked up. Just pull the 10 or so feet into the grassy ditch so not to be seen.

It must be disturbing for our visitors and young kids to see such a site, not to mention the smell. They probably think there’s a deer serial-killer loose in the Northwoods.

Let’s keep our roadways a little bit nicer for those “heading” down the road. Thanks in advance.

Actually I think they should prop them up along side the road with a sign that says "SLOW DOWN".
Perhaps that would get people's attention and there would not be so many dead deer, damaged vehicals and injured people.
The National Institutes of Health has just released the results of a $200 million research study completed under a grant to Johns Hopkins.
The new study has found that women who carry a little extra weight live longer than the men who mention it.

Good idea Scout, however it's not just the speed demons that are hitting deer. My 75 year old mother, who by the way is still a very alert driver, was recently out for a backroads Sunday drive when a whitetail darted in her path. That one she avoided, the second one wasn't so lucky, that one hit the side doing $1800 damage and she was nearly stopped. I too find these headless deer repulsive, we're seeing them here too in the Chippewa Valley. Some additional herd reduction could be the answer. Or maybe the real problem with so many accidents involving deer is that we as a society find the need to get from point A to point B in the least amount of time, thus the 4 lane highways constructed through the natural deer habitat.
Life is too short for drama & petty things!
So, laugh insanely, love truly and forgive quickly!
