A letter in the March 14 Tomahawk Leader:
To the Editor:
As parents of former athletes, my husband and I were required to sign the Athletic Code of Conduct and our children were to sign and uphold it. We went so far as to not permit them to participate in or attend any social or athletic event if they had not attended school that day.
Rules were made and they were expected to honor them. If broken, they knew that they would not need the School Board or the WIAA to decide the matter because we were both judge and jury and our decision was final.
It is sad that times have changed so drastically and promises made are not promises kept by so many today. If children cannot respect themselves to do what is right, how can they expect others to respect them?
As parents, it is our duty to set the kind of example our children are proud to look up to, in ways that command loyalty and respect. If we as parents cannot be that example, who can?
