A Letter to the Editor in the Feb. 20 issue:
To the Leader:
“Now what …?” We’ve heard that countless times since the Tomahawk Together-sponsored Community Round Table on Jan. 29 addressing “risky youth behaviors.”
First, let us say thank you to the people who were in attendance: the youth, parents, speakers Chief Don Johnson, Dr. Russ Sudbury and Terry Timm, representatives of the school district, churches, city and county government, and other concerned citizens. We appreciate the time that you gave to begin addressing some of the issues that were brought to the table. It is clear from the results of the evaluations received, that risky youth behavior is a significant issue that needs to be addressed by our community; and the vast majority of people in attendance were willing to support changing community policies. We also know that there are countless hurting youth, parents and extended families that have been affected and need support. Additionally, there are many people who have shared strategies and ideas which could work for us!
“Now what…?” Well, it’s time to roll up our sleeves Tomahawk and go at the problem head on. We will begin with a Community Round Table II set for the evening of Monday, April 23. Our plan is to brainstorm solutions and end with a consensus on a direction(s) and form task groups to being implementation.
We know we must be proactive! We know what we are currently doing is not working! We know we love our kids to death … but wouldn’t we really rather love them into a safe and healthy life?
Please be part of the solution. Mark your calendar now for April 23! The details will follow in the weeks ahead.
