Between the lines

Postby Tomahawk Leader » Tue Dec 05, 2006 6:55 pm

Dear Editor,

… Readers who follow the goings-on of MAPS administration realize there is much information “in between the lines.” Firstly, enrollment at Pine River has declined for three years straight now, just like Scott and Midway Elementaries. Secondly, MAPS is losing about 20 elementary students yearly. Thirdly, it is expensive paying for six elementary kitchens, six elementary secretary offices and shuttling art teachers, music teachers, physical education teachers and two principals to the three schools outside the city limits. Fourthly, the district, because it is in growth decline, needs to cut its budget every year (this year’s goal is $1,000,000).

In conclusion, I would like to note that those who love Pine River Elementary should love it while it is still there. I very much doubt the current kindergartners will ever graduate from Pine River Elementary. This spring, parents and grandparents, past and present students and teachers closed the Scott Elementary School for the last time, and it has been sold. Midway Elementary closes this spring. The only question left is when MAPS will close Pine River.
