One of DNR’s (Department of Natural Resources’) largest bonehead moves was to allow a “Youth Gun Hunt” (Oct. 7-8, 2006) in the middle of the bow season. What were they thinking? Already skittish deer never showed their faces during shooting hours for the balance of the bow season! Seasoned hunters who waited and watched, only found deer at night – when it was unsafe and illegal to shoot.
Giving “youth” this “leg-up” will not encourage their future hunting; it only demonstrates yet again that “regulations” will be broken for the few, at the expense of the many. Young hunters should wait for the regular gun-deer season – a season which should be expanded beyond the current nine days!
We feed many families with quality venison; some of these families rely on our success. Three or four additional deer would have been “bagged” had the “young guns” been kept silent.
Weary of deer destroying landscaping? Going broke replanting the same flower bed every year and having to spray “Deer-off?” Tired of paying huge insurance premiums due to the enormous cost of car-deer accidents? If the DNR is supposed to be in charge of the deer population, then the DNR should be responsible for all damages deer cause. Oh sure, the DNR will build fences for “farms” but our little acre of paradise in Tomahawk is defoliated every year by deer.
Where do I send my bills?
