Make doctors’ lives less stressful

Postby Tomahawk Leader » Tue Mar 04, 2008 5:00 pm

A letter in the March 4 Tomahawk Leader:

Dear Editor:

I feel compelled to write to you to state my and many others concern about having to build a new and better hospital and clinic, but now we are having problems keeping them staffed. We had seven doctors and are down to three. There must be something very wrong. I am aware of one that I strongly object to. That being the suggested visitation between patient and doctor. A person and their doctor build up a trust and rapport through conversations during a visit. It is not just idle chatter … it is vital to their health. I personally go armed with a myriad of concerning questions and if my visit takes longer than time suggested, so be it. I am paying for that time.

The good doctors are the people skilled and educated for the patient and also earning the finances it takes to run the facility. They are dedicated to our well being and we should never forget that. Surely they should be treated with more concern than the ordinary laborer in the workforce. They are also human and need precious time with their family and friends.

I sincerely hope that these remaining dedicated and community-minded doctors persevere and stay with us. We love and respect and wish to keep them among us for a very long time.
Please see what you can do to make their lives a little less stressful or complicated and go about their chosen profession with dignity and be grateful for the privilege of their services. They are rare and skilled individuals.

I hope you will consider my concerns, who loves and respects these dedicated people who only have our well being as their goal in life. Let’s do all in our power to demonstrate this to them.

A sincere and grateful patient

Dorothy Feind
