A letter in the March 11, 2008, Tomahawk Leader:
To The Editor:
The Tomahawk Area Dog Park will benefit this community by offering an off-leash location where dogs, residents and tourists can exercise and socialize in a safe environment with their canine companions. It's been said "a tired dog is a good dog,” and potentially they will be less likely to end up in a shelter. Exercised and socialized people will also be happier and healthier, too.
In April, 2008, we are scheduled to start putting up all the fencing which has been donated. We have about a 1,000 linear feet, and will need about 1,500 feet more to complete the surround. We have $3,500 in the bank from fundraising which started last summer. We also have construction crew of a few volunteers for labor force.
We will need more funds to purchase the balance of the chain link fence, plus other installation parts. A financial donation of $10, $50 $100, $250, $500 or $1,000, or any other amount you can give would help us in completing the fence project which is our first goal this summer. Can you help us? Your donations are tax deductible.
As funds permit, our second priority will be to add pet and human water fountains. The third priority will be the addition of trees to make it a beautiful park setting.
If you would be willing to lend a physical hand during construction, please contact me for details. I am coordinating a list of work to be done and helpers.
Lastly, one of our fund raisers will be a Pet Garage sale on Saturday May 24. We are seeking donations of anything pet-related (dogs, cats, horses, snails and serpents) to make our garage sale a profitable success. For instance: beds, crates, food bowls, toys, baby gates, leashes, collars, books, food, treats. You could help by remembering the Dog Park when you do your spring cleaning. Small items can be dropped off at the chamber, or we can make arrangements for of larger items.
