4th of July parade (again)
Well last year I complained about the Tomahawk High School Band of Tomahawk because "no one" was in step. Many posts followed mine agreeing with me. I truly thought I would see an improvement this year. We had many nice bands in the parade and of course I watched them march. They were all great except Tomahawk. They all marched beautiful in step except Tomahawk. I was truly ashamed and embarrased and I give up. It is what it is I guess. Hope they did not go to other cities in their parades and show what I saw. Oh well.

We have to face the facts, the band stinks because the band director doesn't care and doesn't like doing parades. The only way they will improve is to fire the bum !

Re: 4th of July parade (again)
Sure would love to add my 2 cents worth, however last year after expressing my opinion here excessively during a visit to Tomahawk I literally came face to fact with the "bum". (Old Scout's word not mine.) Not sure what was mumbled under his breath, by the look on his face it wasn't nice. 'nuff said.

I hope u didn't expect a better outcome Deb. I am surprised that is all u got. I am not saying he is good at what he does or not. sounds like he was pretty civil compared to all the carp he has taken on here. I guess what I am trying to say is that he is entitled to some grumbling.

Well maybe now that we have a bargaining tool with the unions they can get rid of him.
And with all the money we’ll be saving for school districts hire someone who cares instead of someone who’s just there.
Ever think of that??
Merit pay instead of dead wood Pay.
Hmm maybe were on to something here

Re: 4th of July parade (again)
Went to the Labor Day parade today in Merrill. Sure glad the Tomahawk band didn't come down and embarrass themselves and the community.
They need to take lessons from the Merrill band. They were actually in uniforms, looked good, played great and even marched good. Do you think we could work out a trade for the band directors, we would probably have to kick in a couple of other teachers and maybe a janitor to boot.

Old Scout - you seem to know a lot about this. Maybe you should go volunteer to take over the marching band and get everything running smoothly. The whole community would really appreciate it.

Re: 4th of July parade (again)
How about the one that is getting paid to do that just trying to do his job for a change !
After attending THS and living in Tomahawk all these many years, I have seen a lot of good bands , but they had a band director that actually knew what he was doing and did his job. This guy is not include.

XYZ1, a little harsh are we. I myself can't understand why the leadership hasn't been changed. The only reason I can think of is that the concert band continually scored well in competition. Yet, individual solo and ensemble was never anything to cheer about. I don't get it.

Re: 4th of July parade (again)
Does anybody realize how busy kids are these days? Summer jobs, summer leagues for multiple sports, volunteering with clubs so they can write stuff on their college applications, doing stuff around the house to help their parents while they are at work, etc... And at a small school like THS, these are the kids who are in the band too! You think it is easy to find a common time for practice when all the kids have so much going on? And why would these kids want to put in hours of hours of practice for 1 or 2 parades?
And I'm not the one being harsh, Deb. Catfish is on here hiding behind his screen name (Deb and Kerry are the exeptions to this) and calling for the resignation/firing of a person that everybody in the community knows. The band director's kids could be on here reading this. Let's flip things around: Deb, would you like it if somebody was on here railing about the lady working at the dentist office who should be fired? Catfish, I don't know who you are, but you could be the guy that everybody doesn't like when they go to the grocery store, bank, etc. and want him to resign too.
I think that it is a poor use of this forum to use it to make calls for anybody in our community to be fired because somebody behind a screen name doesn't like what they saw at a parade and probably doesn't know all the facts. If you have such hatred for the guy, keep it to yourself.

Re: 4th of July parade (again)
I take it that you think the only students that are busy are the ones in Tomahawk. Do you think the kids in the other schools do nothing but wait around for band practice. Please explain why other schools can put together a group that is so much better in the same amount of time.
What ever happened to learning during class time ? I seem to recall when I was at THS seeing the band outside practicing during their class. I'm betting that with a different teacher you would see a big difference with the same busy students.
As I see it this last post is nothing but excuses for mediocrity and not very good ones at that !
And speaking of screen names, xyz1 is a real dandy too !

Re: 4th of July parade (again)
Well XYZ1, if I wasn't doing my job to the extent of the THS band director I would have lost my job a long ago. Summer jobs, college applications, etc. isn't new to this generation, it was happening way back in the 70s when I was in school. It was the same for Catfish and Old Scout back in dinosaur days as well.

Well, looks like I lost the argument.
Next time I don't like how someone is doing their job I'll be sure to get on here and publicly berate them while hiding my identity.

Your right Deb, some things never change other than they don't use clay tablets any more.

This is for XYZ1, Catfish hiding behind his screen name???? First off, who the heck is XYZ1 ??? Are you hiding behind your screen name? I don't believe it would make any difference at all hearing what I have to say on here as Catfish, Mike or Jim. I have never reamed or crossed anyone on here and feel I am a fun loving, stable, good citizen. How dare you insinuate I'm the guy everybody hates at the bank and supermarket. Quite the contrary. What is your problem? And for that matter who is 'old scout' really? I don't care, I just enjoy him as 'old scout' . Let's say you go to someones house to buy a lawnmower, and the guy says his name is 'Speedy' , is that lawnmower going to be any worse than if his name was Mike or Jim. Get a grip. Slow down and smell the roses. They smell good.
Re: 4th of July parade (again)
and furthermore XYZ1, besides you, who is neup99, mystic, sagan, mimi61, asterisk, aphephelia, river rat, tooten, nimble, etc. etc. etc.
and further, who is Madonna, Sting, Lady Gaga etc.
WHY YOU PICKEN ON ME, especially after you saying "I'm Not harsh" what about Catfish hiding behind his screen name. Have I EVER been harsh on here? XYZ1, keep posting on here, I don't care who you are, you are XYZ1 to me.

Re: 4th of July parade (again)
Sorry Catfish, that was a mistake. I meant Old Scout in previous post. I apologize.
Also, I understand that most people do not use there real names on here, myself included.
I just don't think it is right to use a fake name on here and call somebody out in the community that everybody knows and complain about how terrible they do their job and how they should be fired.
What's next? Are we going to start posting things like "got gas today and (insert real name here) wasn't in a good mood and was rude to me. She should be fired". Is that what we want to use this forum for?

Catfish, I think you're taking things beyond the limit of even this Board. You use the word

Nobody on this Board is 'stable' !!!
in your self description. Did you read that somewhere or just pick it out of thin air?Catfish wrote:stable
