louis
hello everyone, im kind of new to the site but originate from tomahawk. i was checking my hometown news from overseas and read the article corresponding to the seth louis murder in rhinelander. the weird part is ive actually met seth louis when he had stopped out at a friends house to visit his ex girlfriend. now we are only acquainted so dont get the wrong idea. i never imagined that he was a murderer although he did seem a bit awkward, and according to his ex he was sometimes violent.
Re: louis
Hello Tomahawk_Marine,
As a reporter for the Tomahawk Leader, I've been covering this homicide from the beginning. It's senseless, horrifying and above all, its a real tragedy for the Tomahawk community and Maurer family.
As the Lincoln County District Attorney's office will contest, this murder was over a $200 debt on a computer. Louis' Defense lawyers will likely claim he was only in the house when someone else murdered Tracy.
We must assume Seth Louis is innocent until proven guilty in court.
Thank you for your service to our country. Best wishes to you and your family.

Attest or contest? Come on Jed, don't give Dopey more ammo when she calls me the "grammar cop"!!
If folks proof their posts, then they might not be asked what position they are taking. This is another example of a screwed up posting that I know of that has stated exactly the opposite stance than what the author wanted to express.
Hey Dopey Dwarf, am I granted a pass on this one???

Hey Jeff,
I thought the job of a "grammar cop" was to make sure that text is free from grammatical errors, typos or spelling mistakes. I don't think the job description includes reading into what the writer has to say or interpreting his thoughts and meanings into what you ‘think’ he means.
Only Jed knows for sure whether or not he really meant "contest" rather than "attest". Granted, I would lean towards your opinion on this but as the Message Board GC I wouldn't put words into his mouth. As MBGC you are held to a higher standard.
…btw…I do admire your appreciation for good grammar and your intolerance of those who don’t!!!! Please allow me to indulge in my ‘3 dot’ recklessness…I sometimes use it too much but I really try hard to be true to the rules on the other stuff.

Re: louis
Ken,
If the procecution is pressing charges, I doubt that they would "contest" that the suspect did the deed.
If Jed's Line is writing for the TL as he states in his own subject line on the message board, he should be particularly careful to proof his posts.
"..." just means you're thinking. Attest vs. Contest means you're confused or inattentive.

Re: louis
Mea culpa, Mea culpa !!! Yup, my inattentiveness caused my confusion. In my zeal to get some conversation and argument going I humbly admit that I overlooked what you correctly pointed out. I am embarrassed and I should be. Shame on me…
All lessons should serve a purpose. This one should make me more careful in the future.
But I'm sure I'll step in it again!!!

Re: louis
Logic1,
It winds up being a test in eating "Humble Pie" for me.
Sometimes I take sticking my foot into my mouth to the level of an art form! I was tempted to delete my last post after re-reading it, but figured that it served me right after my rant on Jed.

Humble pie is sometimes best eaten with company. I feel less alone now!!
I hope the Labor Day Weekend was fun, safe and pleasant in Tomahawk this year.
Anyone spend any time in my old childhood haunt Bradley Park?

Re: louis
For all of my online pratfalls, one would think I'd learn my lesson.
Sorry Jed. But after all this I would really like to know... (Thoughtful dots stolen from Ken) "attest or contest"?
For my next stunt I'll try to conjugate a verb!!!

Re: louis
I will contest that the word attest would have better served to describe the prosecution's challenge of proving Louis is guilty. I used the word contest because I personally cannot comprehend that someone would kill over $200. As to contest a controversial question.
I've found that eating crow is often more enjoyable when done with good friends. I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend.

Jed's Line,
Humble pie, crow, insert foot & chew on well. I've done them all. I still don't understand your choice of words, but if that's your style, then I apologize for calling you out on the matter.
Happy fishing in God's country,
Jeff

It is weird how much a subject can deviate from itself on such an awkward and seemingly unrelated tangent, wouldnt you agree? and youre welcome friend for my service to our country (however that may play into the big picture), i do what i can.

Re: louis
I know this is an old thread, but I just had to add my Grammar B**ch two cents.
The word you're looking for is "contend." The prosecution makes contentions. Ergo, the prosecution will contend that the murder was over a $200 computer. The defense will contest this contention. (Thus the origin of the "no contest" plea.)
