The following news story appears in the Dec. 4, 2007, Tomahawk Leader. We would welcome any memories/comments, etc. about Company C.

The soldiers of the Wisconsin Army National Guard’s Company C, 724th Engineer Battalion, and their families will be casing and retiring the colors of Company C at a ceremony Saturday morning at the Tomahawk armory.

Company C’s colors have waved for over 58 years to represent the National Guard unit, now being reorganized as the 951st Engineer Company, an engineer sapper unit.

Company C's long history of service to the state and nation includes the unit’s recent mobilization for an active duty mission in Iraq from May 2003 to April 2004. The unit did not lose a single soldier despite serving nearly an entire year in a combat zone.

The unit also has served overseas in a NATO exercise in Germany and on humanitarian missions in Central America.
Although Company C will no longer exist as a Wisconsin National Guard unit, soldiers will still serve in the Guard as members of the new 951st Engineer Company. The 951st, like Company C before it, will be divided between Tomahawk and Rhinelander. The Tomahawk detachment will have 48 soldiers authorized.

The ceremony casing Company C’s colors will be held Saturday, Dec. 8 at 8 a.m. at the National Guard Armory, 215 Armory Dr. The ceremony is open to the public and all former members of Company C, their families and friends.

Tie to Tomahawk: Born, raised and live in Tomahawk
That will be a sad day for many of us who served with Charlie Co. I have many memories of all the great guys I had the honor to serve with over the ten years I was with the unit. The flag may be cased and retired, but Charlie Co. 724th Engineers will live on in our memories.
