Hospital?

It appears that part of the old Sacred Heart hospital will be used to house and train nurses.
What should the rest of the hospital be used for?
OR
If it wasn`t going to be used for training nurses, what would have been a good way to put the building to good use?
Imagine that building turning into another vacant school, like the one on county E and O by the mill!

that school on E and O is not vacant. Skip and his wife live in there.

I think it would be a wonderful place for the city to donate to the community as a Habitat for Renewal, and other charity organizations.

And here all this time I just thought the old Fulsher School was just being used as a junk yard, and it turns out to be somebody's junky front yard. Hard to believe the neighbors and the county but up with that mess. :(

Only Skip lives there. Marge died of cancer a few months ago.

Whoever lives there ought to clean the place up. I don't think anyone expected that the area would be turned into a junk yard when the building was sold in the first place.

There must be a town or county ordinance against what happened to the Fulsher School building. They should have had town meetings, simular to the Sacred Heart Hospital meetings, that would have decided the fate of the school building. Such waste of, what should be, valuable real estate.

And what about the junkyard on Tannery Road? Maybe the city attorney can put some light on the situation.

Maybe, just maybe (I don't know for sure because I really don't know) but maybe Skip doesn't have the financial means or physical ability to clean up the place. Maybe someone should organize a "Random Act of Kindness Task Force" and go over there and offer to help him get the place in order. That in turn would also help all those concerned with and about the property.

Sounds like a great idea. How could that be organized and carried out without offending the property owner? Could it be that he doesn't think his property is a junkyard and an eye sore? Ya know, beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

I'm not sure really, one man's junk is surely another man's treasure as the old cliche' goes. Perhaps there must be someone who knows someone who knows Skip well enough to be able to ask him without offending him.

aphe, what a great idea. Maybe the guy can't, for whatever reason, clean it up himself. You came up with a solution from the heart. Way to go!

Perhaps if he quit buying all those old cars, boats and other misc. junk there would not be a problem. Apparently money isn't a problem seeing as he is constantly bringing in more vehicals and other strange stuff. Personally I think he is just a pack rat that thinks all that junk is valuable and the more he has of it the more important it makes him feel.

i think we should just buy him a pair of red and green suspenders and change the fulsher school sign to say "possum lodge".

One persons trash is another persons treasure is what it is. He is a pack rat also. I know and care for Skip and he has good heart. The suggestion from the heart was great!! Our family has offered to help him clean his junk yard and he thinks we are crazy because he feels all that stuff is worth something.

ummmmm, well if that's the case, do you think he would be interested in acquiring another car? I have one I need to get rid of and I don't really want to pay $150.00 for someone to hall it away. :D

Hello everyone,

Just felt I had to add something to this topic seeing that Skip is my grandfather's great friend and like a grandfather figure to me also.
Skip feels that his yard is his and, I feel the same way. You don't like it...turn your head. Skippy enjoys tinkering around and, as far as I know doesn't bother many people.
To me this is just typical Tomahawk talk and find it funny to read...living in a bigger city I realize what they say about small towns are true. Don't get me wrong...I love going "home" once in awhile but could never understand why so many people get enjoyment out of picking on other people.
Skippy is a great person and really doesn't care what anyone says about his yard or anything else for that matter. This is who he is! Let him enjoy what he enjoys most...
What about the people with so many lawn decorations that it makes the yard look cluttered? To me that is a horrible but who cares...it isn't my yard. My yard is how I want it to look and I am sure yours is to.
Anyway, I hope everyone back home is doing well and I can't wait to come "home" for a visit!
;)

Oh come on. What is any town without a little ***** fest? I know skip too. I bought a truck from him back in high school. It was a piece of crap, but i still think he's an okay guy. Personally, i think it's cool that he has a surplus of vehicles. I'm also a guy who thinks Monster Garage is among the best shows on television. I think skip should get into that. I'd probably pay money to drive by if he had a small truck with a catapult on it or something equally cool.

Too bad the city has absolutly nothing to do with the property....

The problems with the building and any supsequent occupancy are the same problems that lead Ministry Healthcare to build new in the first place. Namely, that in order to bring the elevators, fire protection, and asbestos requirements up to current codes, it is necessary to drop a huge amount of money into the structure. Even when that is all finished, you still have an old building.

I would love to see some form of adult daycare, inpatient hospice care, a home for teen mothers, or even some type of addiction medicine treatment like the old AODA program... however, the cost of the upkeep and maintenance of the building, added to the costs of the required upgrades, really doesn't bode well for any type of self sustaining occupancy.

The new owners are only planning to use a very limited amount of the building as I understand it; I fear that this Tomahawk landmark is destined for the wrecking ball as more of an albatross then that of an asset to the new owners.

(This is a little off the hospital topic but,)
I drove by the old Fulsher School building a few times this past week , and it seems to look worse every time.

If you think the school looks bad, drive a little further down Hwy. O and check out some of the other junk yards that have developed in the area. I really feel sorry for the people that live in the area and have to see that mess every time they look out their front window. I can't believe the town of Bradley doesn't do something about it.

Wow, you guys are really lucky! I wish all I had to worry about in life was what other peoples' yards looked like.

It's easy to make cheap shots over other peoples concerns, but how would you feel if you had a nice house and yard and some jerk started a dump site across the road from you. Just sit back and watch you property values go down and imagin what will happen if you wanted to sell and no-one wanted to buy a place with a junk yard for a view from their front window. Some of us actually take a little pride in maintaining our home. I can only hope that some day with a little luck this might happen to you and then we will probably hear you screaming all over the county. It is easy to criticise when you are not the one that has to put up with the problem. :(
