lets start a NEW thread for a change.....

Postby logic1 » Fri Apr 21, 2006 1:54 pm

I feel the smoking & gay marriage issue is WAY over thought............let's change the topic ;)

how does everyone feel about the new shelter being built at Pride Park? From what I understand, it is a new warming house for the ice rink. Why then, was an outdoor rink put at Sara Park. Who many do we really need? From what I have seen this winter, niether one is used enough to justify having two. Is this a waste of our tax payer money? or is the new shelter being paid for in a manner that I do not know about? contributions? wondering if anyone knows......

Someone help me settle a debate......What is the previous name of the bingo hall part of Sara Park?

I don't recall it having a certain name....what are the choices you have?? Maybe jog my memory.

I think it was the WAIWAU Room or something like that. The powers that organized and ran SARA Park are/were the WAIWAU Committee or something close. Ask Paul Garner or Jeff Kahle.

I say hear hear, smoking doesn't cause nearly all the social problems that other societal ills and vices do...and most of them are MUCH WORSE. In addition, as a pollution source it ranks way down below cars and coal burning plants--so are we to ban those too? :D As for second-hand smoke, I would get a lot sicker if someone burned incense in the room, or potpourri, or snuck marijuana into my food, or used carpetfresh (I am REALLY allergic to those things!)

Hmm,

One person gets sick (so should be ban peanuts too?) vs. something known to make EVERYONE sick???

Gee, that's a tough one.

Actually, there is more than one allergic to peanuts and there are a few angry moms trying to get them banned. But seriously, there seems to be way too many things that are being put forth as worthy of banning. Perhaps we ought to try going back to the golden rule rather than spending years of red tape and taxpayer money for enforcement of ban after ban after ban. Perhaps smokers would stop blowing smoke in your face if you stopped treating them like public enemy number one. I'm sure we can all think of a vice or two that we all have that are not exactly beneficial to others and which we would fight against having banned.

Well, at this point it's not illegal and it is something that some people choose to do (why? I have no idea).
It's their right to do it, just as it's someone else's right not to "be forced" to be around it.
If you don't like being around people who smoke, then avoid being around them. Simple.

(Sorry Logic, I didn't mean to contribute to the "hijacking" of your thread.)

no problem abnerman. I don't think anyone has anymore info on this project than I do.
