The night before the bigest event in the northwoods and still no discussion, if this keeps up I might have to start a thread myself. Looks like we lucked out with the weather again ;) I look forward to this ride the entire year, I have been to sturgis and daytona and have no desire to ever go back but i'll never miss the ride up to tomahawk....17 hours before we leave.

The biggest thing I think is that you can't get away from the crowds at the other places, at least in tomahawk you can go for a little ride through the woods and it's not stop and go traffic. At sturgis and daytona every town within 150 miles is packed, road though the black hills at 5 MPH stop and go (more stopped than go) I'd go back for the ridding just never during bike week again. And theres something about paying $5 for a can of beer at a huge brand new bar thats only open two weeks out of the year that doesn't say common back soon to me. Almost time to go I hope everyone has a safe weekend.

Maybe you have no replies because the participants KNOW that they will have a good time?

Our neighbors will be there. They have a soft tail. They love the welcome they receive from Tomahawk. They sleep on the porch of a friend who lives close to downtown. Colorama is a must see on their calender.

Jeff,

YOu should have come up for the weekend. The weather is great the fall ride activities are off to a rip-roaring start and we are all having a good time. I would have even bought you a bag of fresh popped Boy Scout Popcorn at our troops stand. It just doesn't get much better than this. :D

What is the deal with the bar that is only open fro the fall ride? How do they pay their rent/mortage? I don't think they make enough those two weeks for the whole year?

Scout,
One of these years, I will. But if I were on a Harley, I'd need a crash course on driving.
(Never been on a motor bike.)

You want to hear about jacking up prices, We tried to buy bottled water to sell at the Boy Scout stand during the fall ride from Mid-Wisconsin beverages, (Pepsi) and were told they would "supply bottled water to those at the SARA park for, $17.75 a case for 20 oz bottles. The only way to make anything off of the sale would be to charge at least $1.50 a bottle. I noticed one place was charging $2.00. We ended up buying it at Wal-mart for $4.48 a case for the same size. Now I don't have a problem with anyone making a profit, but I don't like being raped in the process. I basicly told them I would haul water from home, ice it and give it away before we would pay that price. Good grief, it is only water, nothing special about that.

Depending on what kind of water you buy is what you pay. I am in retail, Coke and Pepsi both charge around that price year round. I don't think they were jacking the price up to you, that is normal. It is usually cheaper to buy a water from a store that buys it in huge bulk amounts like Wal-Mart.

Two years ago we bought water from Pepsi for just over $5.00 a case. I find it hard to believe it has gone up that much in 2 years. Not like there is a shortage of water. Maybe they are taking lessons from the oil companies. :D

Give them **** , Scout! It's obvious that you can deliver an equivalent product & actually make some $$ for the Boy Scouts. If/when my wife & I get to the event, rest assured we'll buy a ****load of popcorn!

I am refering to the "saloon" bar downtown next to Pik's Pub. It is never open and I heard it is only open during the fall run. As for the Bears-Packers, I let the score speak for itself.

If they are not going to be open they sure wasted a lot of time and money fixing the place up and putting up a large deck and fenced in beer garden. Find that a little hard to believe.

The "saloon" you are speaking of is called the "Rodeo Bar" and is owned by the same people that own "Piks Pub". Most locals know that. As un-busy as it is in Tomahawk on weeknights it is more cost effective to run one bartender at Piks and keep the lights off at the Rodeo until it warrants the dual overhead. They are open for Fall Ride, Pow Wow Days, downtown Car Show, Labor Day parade, etc.

Makes sense to me.

My neighbors came home from the fall ride singing praises to Tomahawk. They loved the experience. Again.
