Does the water level vary on Lake Alice as much as we experienced on Nokomis??

Any impoundments on the Wisconsin River itself are kept at a very stable level (Lakes Alice and Mohawksin for example) so, no, you don't experience the fluctuations that you would with feeder rivers such as the Rice (Nokomis) and Spirit. As to your second question, it would depend on what type of fish you are after. In general, the fishing is pretty good on Lake Alice IF you know where to go.

We're all for fishing for whatever is biting at the time. Being away from home & the act of fishing itself is typically good enough for us!

Is Alice a lake that drops off quickly from the shoreline or generally a shallow lake? (I like to get lazy & toss a lighted slip bobber out at night, then sit on the pier & watch for shooting stars.)

Lots of stump fields and relatively shallow for the most part. The main river channel has some depth to it and there are also some other deeper pockets. You might want to contact the Tomahawk Chamber for a lake map. Night fishing off a pier, listening to the loons and bullfrogs while watching the sky is one of the best things about summer in the northwoods...

I live on lake alice, and it is my understanding that there is a water easment that is +/- 6 inches from the mean water level. In otherwords the water level can vary no more then 6 inches.

In the 20+ years we have had one drawdown in 1986ish for repairs to the dam, but that is it.

As for the fishing, it has been improving over the years as far as I can tell. Spring is great for walleye and bass, and you can catch northern and musky there anytime. Biggest so far for me is a 44" musky about 3 years ago, but I am catching them more frequently.

If you like panfish, the bluegills, perch, and crappies are fairly easy to get and are of decent size -- not as much of the "stunted" 3" bluegills.. Wax worms work great year round as do small minnows.

The only thing about Lake Alice fishing is be prepared to loose tackle at an alarming rate. The stumps are brutal and eat lures with abandon. Best bet is a gold hook, live bait, and a bobber. Leave all the fancy lures at home.

But then again, I like the boat, sunset, quiet time as much as the fishing.

It took me a few months here to get back to a computer as I am in Iraq.

Anyway, the bay that I live on is about 4-6 feet. Great smallmouth and walleye, and TONS of panfish right off the dock.

When I get back from my adventures, I will invite you over for a cold one.

Is the Red Arrow Lodge still on Lake Alice?

The Red Arrow Lodge no longer exists as a business. It's been gone for a number of years now. Not sure if the old buildings have been razed or not.

Alas, the Red Arrow exists in fond memories only. The property was sold a number of years ago and the new owner built a very impressive log home in its place.
If memory serves, the new home there belongs to a gentleman from Milwaukee who owns a construction interest.

Yes, he is in construction and has actually built two log homes that are beautiful!! My parents home is right around the bend from them and have owned it since the early 1970's. I remember Red Arrow very well. Duane Crowell(sp?) would water ski guests, pontoon rides, etc. We would listen to the square dance music and every once in a while a curious guest or two would venture our way. I kinda miss the place but what the current owners have done is spectacular. There is still a Red Arrow cabin left on the property, I think he left it there just because of the history. I am not sure what cabin # it is though.

The depth of the water in that area off of Pine Shore Lane is quite deep and no stumps in the area. It is a very popular part of the lake for water sports because of that reason.

Duane Crowell is the correct spelling. As a kid, my family would vacation at Red Arrow Lodge during the late 1950's and 1960's. We ended up moving to Tomahawk in the late 60's.

It would be a pity if the bar and main lodge were demolished. That has alot of memories. They would even bring in float planes for rides.

I caught alot of fish out of Lake Alice.

I have great memories of Lake Alice. Every summer we rented a cabin from Shelton's Fishing Camp. We fished Loka (sp?) Bay, and what we called Duckett's Bay. We would go into town and look at the "fish box," which was outside a store. I rowed my father in the evening while he fished for bass or fly fished. My family went there from the early 1960s thru early 2000.

I don't know if anyone here has heard of these places...they are all gone now. I don't think you can even rent a cabin on Lake Alice much anymore.

If I had the $$, I would buy a place on the lake and spend my summers on Lake Alice.....

Not big enough for the weekly contest, but a dandy Smally none the less.

Northern's and Musky's are hitting too, and I even got a couple of legal walleyes! The water is still fairly algea free, and the fish are in there like piggies...
