- Tie to Tomahawk: The Tomahawk Leader
- Location: Tomahawk WI
The current shake-up at the Packaging Corporation of America (PCA) Tomahawk mill is of great concern to everyone in the Tomahawk community. That mill, which locals refer to simply as “The Mill,” has always been a cornerstone of Tomahawk, providing hundreds of good-paying jobs.
We were surprised to hear last week that mill manager Ken Schulz had been relieved of his duties. We heard rumors of other heads being cut later in the week.
When things like that happen at The Mill, the rumors invariably begin to circulate. We’ve heard tell of a pending sale, merger or takeover. With The Mill’s track record of being bought and sold, tales of that nature could very well have some validity.
PCA has been a good corporate citizen of the community, contributing generously to various causes.
We spoke with Schulz, who politely declined to comment on the situation at the Tomahawk mill or the circumstances of his dismissal. We can understand his reticence on the matter.
But, we’re still looking for answers from someone within the company. We’ll let you know what we find out.
Every time there is a sale or management change at the mill, the Tomahawk community holds its collective breath to see if the mill will survive. It always has, and there’s no reason to believe that the mill is going to shut down and leave hundreds of Tomahawk families and the entire community high and dry.
We are going to miss Ken Schulz. He and his wife, Renee, have been very involved in the Tomahawk community. And more than likely a new job opportunity will take them away from Tomahawk.
