Dumpster Day a good deal for Tomahawk residents

Postby Tomahawk Leader » Tue Sep 04, 2007 1:20 pm

An editorial in the Sept. 4 Tomahawk Leader:

This Saturday, Tomahawk residents will have the opportunity to dispose of everything from old beds and furniture to computers and televisions as the Lincoln County Solid Waste Department and Tomahawk Make a Difference Group (MADG) combine to host a citywide cleanup.

The cleanup will begin at 10 a.m. at the city garage, located on the corner of West Spirit Avenue and South Railway Street This is the only electronic and citywide cleanup event held in Tomahawk for the year and is only open to city residents.

The electronic collection will run until noon and the MADG cleanup will extend till 2 p.m. As part of the MADG event, Tomahawk residents can fill out a pickup form at City Hall or can contact Annette at 453-2665 or Clarann at
453-4085 to have items picked up curbside. The pickup is part of a fund raiser for Tomahawk Boy Scouts and other nonprofit organizations. A $5 cash fee is being charged. Material must be placed at the curb and will not be removed from inside homes or from private property.

Also in conjunction with the cleanup, Tomahawk Iron and Metal, N10447 Tannery Rd., will extend its hours until 2 p.m. to accept such material as old washers and dryers that are not accepted at the MADG event. Many products consisting of metal may be disposed of for no cost while other items such as vehicle tires ($1.50 each) include a fee. Call 453-4288 for more information.
As part of the electronics disposal, items to be collected include computers, computer monitors, TVs, VCRs and other recorders, fluorescent bulbs and batteries. Charges for disposal range from $15 for a computer and monitor to no charge for lead/acid batteries and NiCad batteries.

The MADG disposal at the city garage will accept any furniture or household product excluding electronic and products containing hazardous material. A donation is requested.
Questions about the collection can be directed to City Hall at 453-4040 or the Oneida County Solid Waste Department at 282-4945. Only city residents are eligible to use this electronics drop off service.

Look around and take advantage of this opportunity to help cleanup Tomahawk.
