Included with this week’s issue of the Tomahawk Leader is our annual publication, aptly titled “What’s Great About Tomahawk and the surrounding area.” Inside it you’ll find features on organizations, events and a whole lot more that make the Tomahawk area great place to live, work and play. We included not only the City of Tomahawk, but the outlying areas such as Nokomis and Tripoli.
This is the 10th annual publication of What’s Great About Tomahawk. Every year as we assemble it, we are reminded of all the things we have to be proud of in our little town. Some of our events would be envied by much larger cities. The Fall Ride, for example, brings in more than 30,000 people to the area. The Northwoods Cruisers Main Street Memories car show has become the premier Memorial Day weekend show in the state, drawing show cars from far and wide. Tomahawk’s Pow Wow Days Fourth of July celebration, which serves as a kind of homecoming, turns 50 years old this year.
The Tomahawk Historical Society has a new building and more to offer than ever. A second annual Tomahawk Yesterday historical celebration is slated for this summer.
The Tomahawk Regional Airport has a freshly reconstructed runway and will be back in business for this year’s air show.
There is plenty of other development going on. A major expansion of the Tomahawk School District complex is set to be completed in August. Sacred Heart Hospital and the Tomahawk Medical Group clinic will soon be underway on construction of a new hospital/clinic facility off Mohawk Drive.
With all the activity around here, you’d think we were in a much larger community. But, Tomahawk has the added attraction of its small-town atmosphere and beautiful natural scenery. Opportunities for hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation abound in our very back yards.
Yes, we like it here. But don’t take our word for it. Most of the articles in What’s Great About Tomahawk are written by community members who also have an affection for the area. We put this publication together, but there is a lot of community involvement in the content.
The What’s Great About Tomahawk booklets will be available throughout the year at various locations around the area, so that people can have a handy guide to the community whenever they need it. Our calendar of events runs through the end of the year, so you can check out what’s coming up at a glance. We try to make What’s Great About Tomahawk a useful activity guide for both residents and visitors alike.
If you’re reading this, you already have a copy of What’s Great About Tomahawk within reach. Pick it up and make some plans to enjoy the area. Better yet, let someone else know what’s great about Tomahawk and the surrounding area.
