Here are the things that SCARE ME about what's happening in this country. According to Rachel Maddow on MSNBC:

1. The Koch brothers are now the 4th wealthiest (combined wealth) in the WORLD.

2. Last year the Koch brothers netted $9 BILLION in personal wealth.

3. One Koch brother imitator was the only phone call our Governor Scott Walker accepted.

4. Walker is proposing a law that requires photo IDs for voters. Research shows that the voters most likely to be denied voting privileges are the low-income and ethnic (because they cannot afford the proper photo ID) and college students. Yes, the bill would deny college students to use their college ID to vote. The Supreme Court has already ruled on this agreeing that college students can vote where they go to school. However, they would be denied this in Walker's bill. All of these groups typically vote Democratic.

5. Voter photo ID laws are being presented in 32 of our 50 states.

6. The America Legislative Exchange Council has sample legislation language that has been presented to law makers of the Republican party.

7. The Koch brothers are a large component of the America Legislative Council.

Do you see a pattern here?

Regardless of your party preferences, do you believe this is what America and democracy are about? Having the fourth richest in the world proposing legislation about who will and who will not be allowed to vote? Seriously?

Lets get real here, you have to show a photo ID to cash a check, but you don't think that voting is as important as cashing or writing a check ?

Seems as you are grasping at any straw that floats by to try to make a case and this is a ridiculous one besides.

If it is a way of preventing voter fraud it makes perfect sense. And how many people in reality don't have some form of ID. Those that do not have a drivers license (and there are darn few who don't) can get a photo ID at minimal cost.

If this is the best you can do in trying to put down Walker you really need to find a life or a hobby and give up on this.

I agree that some form of identification should be required to vote. Simply stating a name and address that complies with a list is not sufficient.

That being said, I agree that more should be done to make ID cards available to people. Creating a cost that requires people to pay in order to exercise the right to vote isn't right. Given the technology available, $28 does seem to be a bit much for an ID card. I could even see making ID cards a requirement for people 18 and older, however, the cards should then be free of charge.

$28.00.......for a photo ID......I'll make you one for $12.00.....I remember how to make a phony drivers license from the sixties! Hey this may be a money maker...fake IDs, driver's licenses, social security cards.....wonder why nobody has thought of this money maker before. I'm getting right on it.

P.S. This is for real, DO NOT open anything about Charlie Sheen dying of a heart attack. It is a virus! Learned about it on facebook.

A phony drivers license in the 60's was a piece of cake in WI no pictures used. Gee Catfish why am I not surprised that you mastered that skill.

Thanks too for the Charlie Sheen info. How did I ever miss that on Facebook.

Seriously though, I think a picture ID of some sort probably isn't a bad idea. When voter registration became mandatory my husband and I went armed with drivers license and passport to the polls. The lady in line ahead of us had her electric bill. Of course all the poll workers knew her. That is not always the case in the bigger cities.

I don't agree with the part about allowing college students to vote at college. What would stop them from voting at college and requesting an absentee ballot from home?

To me Rachel Maddow's report is telling us that those with the deepest pockets are able to make them deeper at the expense of those of us with shallow pockets.

First off you must realize I am only responding because I'm bored with cabin fever right now.....
Actually Deb, there were photos on the driver's license's of the sixties, because we altered alot of them. We wanted to get into those 18 year old beer bars that were happening then.
They were nearly impossible to recreate, even in the high schools expansive print shop. In those days the lamination was no better than the stick together sheets we now buy in WalMart. They were easy to seperate with acetone. All you had to do was lay the card in a dish of acetone for a couple of minutes and you could lift the corner apart enough to stick in a photo of your self onto the card, as that was they made it originally with a photo sandwiched between the laminates. And presto, now Joe brown is Ben White, at least at that bar!

Now that bit of info, and a dollar, will get you a cup of coffee, just about anywhere.

Interesting factoid Catfish! Of course I wouldn't know that there were pictures on licenses in the sixties because I wasn't old enough to drive until the seventies.

BTW, just beat a bit of that cabin fever with a great walk. A little cold on face but still a great walk. Good music helps.

I'd love to walk but for the time being I'm on crutches. Three weeks now with 'plantar fascitus'. Wow is that painfull. Can't put any weight on my foot at all. Hence, cabin fever.
Bored.
I read, watch TV, mess with the putor. Wish I had nitrous oxide. Wish I was dentist with lots of money...AND.... nitrous oxide!
Medical marihoona would even be alright. I just want to smile and not think of the constant pain. OOOOH dat hurts.

Catfish sorry to hear of latest issue. Maybe kmartell (living in CA) would know how to hook you up with some of that medical marihoona. The N2O would be nice too, sorry wish I could hook you up.

I think Catfish has gout & just doesn't want to admit it in public!

Catfish: Two hot toddies & and a copy of the SI Swim Suit issue will take your mind off that Plantar Fascitus.
Hope you get well soon!

Catfish....if you can make it down to Madison and get one of those street doctors to write you a prescription for 'medical marihoona' I think I might be able to get it filled for you. I'll keep a little for myself as a 'finders fee' and to cover incidental costs. You're on your own for the toddies and SI Swim Suit issue though...sorry, I don't share... 8)

So boys when you say 'toddies' do you mean an adult beverage or what is barely covered in the SI Swimsuit issue?

Before going to Madison for a script and sending it to Calif It would be much quicker going to the high school for immediate service. But they'd say, "What you talkin bout grandpa?"

At first I thought it was gout but it turns out to be this tendon thing called fascitus. For sure it's painful. Round the clock.

Catfish, you have my sympathy ! ! !
I had that a few years ago and it hit me when I was on vacation in Vegas of all places. Sure did spoil the trip. Ended up with special arch supports but it took a long time to heal and get rid of the pain.

Scout, thank you for the sympathy as you know what I'm talking about. Same here with the new supported shoes and added arch supports. They wanted to give me some anti inflamatory meds but couldn't because of the anti rejection meds I take from my liver transplant. Not even allowed to take aspirin because it is also an NSAID. The aspirin would even help with the inflamation but nix for me. Oh well, when the going gets tough, the tough get going.

1st , just an FYI often times the parts barely covered in the SI Swimsuit issue are referred to as "toddies".

2nd, what is about going on vacation and a case of Plantar Fascitus? Old Scout you are the 3rd person I've heard mention that in the past week. Must be the new shoes and all the extra walking.

3rd, how did we get from Voter ID and the Koch Brothers to Plantar Fascitus to toddies.

AND

4th Jeff don't be dissin' my bud Mimi! ~big cheesy smiley face~

Deb,
I said toddies, not titties. You were the one that dragged this discussion string further into the gutter! ;)

There. I almost posted a smiley for you!

You might be in trouble Jeff, not sure titties is an acceptable word. Although, we all know that's what a cow has. No...wait...teats....never mind.

Let me remind you Jeff that you suggested scantily clad women to Catfish for his Plantar Fascitus, (actually I'm sure your suggestion would have been the same for whatever might be ailing Catfish, not just the Fascitus). So who headed this thread in the direction of the gutter? Hmmmm?

I'm just going to chalk it all up to cabin fever and not go into an entire litany of the degrading of women. ~another big cheesy smile~

(Partial smile appreciated)

All in good fun here. I don't believe anyone has degraded women here. More so the SI Sports issue degraded them if that is the case. Were those girls that posed with their toddies partly exposed being a traiter to the feminine cause? All I got to say to them is. "Thank you, Ladies!"

Back in the days when my boys were middle school age I would never allow them to see the SI Swimsuit issue. I don't know why I bothered they saw it at school. Dad might have slipped it to them too. When I think back on it, that was pretty dumb on my part.
