TOMAHAWK – The planning committee for the 2019 Fall Ride has made non-profit vendor placement its top priority, but continues to have trouble finding any willing to participate in this year’s event. As a result, the Tomahawk VFW, represented by Pat Haskin at the meeting, requested that the Health and Safety Committee allow “for-profit vendors to set up in the right-of-way on North 2nd Street and North 3rd Street,” according to the agenda.

“I’m just afraid of what that’s putting out to the non-profits that are sticking it out,” said Will Garske in response to the proposal.

After some discussion, permission was granted, with only Garske voting against the proposal.

In anticipation of difficulties, the committee proposed an amendment to the City of Tomahawk’s Municipal Code that would require vendors to display prices. It was later passed by the Common Council.

Discussion of possible layouts and signage options to better support vendors was discussed. Overall, the hope is that participants of Fall Ride will make the personal choice to purchase food from non-profits.

“If we’re going to continue to have non-profits drop out, we’re going to have a problem, all the way around,” said Haskin. “I’m guessing we’re going to have some more events (in the future) that that is going to happen to.”
