explosive devices

Postby jimmo » Tue Dec 06, 2005 7:34 pm

Why do our military keep driving the roads the insurgents can preplan their bomb placement? We were taught that patrols should never leave and return by the same routes and same times.

Hmmm... is it just me, or does this post make no sense what so ever?

Are you talking about Iraq, or I-39?

I am unsure as to the direction (no pun intended) your query is leading.

Just wondering how others feel about how the war in Iraq is being conducted. Can the Generals disagree with the Whitehouse people without jeopardising their careers? Does this post make sense?

Wow, did they have bombs planted along I-39? I haven't heard anything about that. I'm going to take an alternate route home.

Am I the only one taking that war seriously?

.......we were taught that patrols should never leave and return by the same routes and same times.....

How many roads do you think they have there? When you get to where you're going there aren't any alternate routes back. What do you want them to do, drive in and fly out? You said you were serious.

They addressed this same question on a special I was watching about the war not to long ago. It specifically dealt with a 6 mile stretch of road to and from the airport in Baghdad. The insurgents know specific roads/routes are important and our military knows that they must be secured.

The following excerpt may explain better than I can......

"The four-lane, six-mile stretch of road leading from central Baghdad to the country's main airport remains one of the most dangerous stretches of highway in Iraq, if not the world. It functions as a critical supply line into and out of the country, traversed daily by US military convoys as well as Iraqi and foreign businessmen, journalists, and aid workers.

So why is this vital strip of concrete, which takes only minutes to travel, still so difficult to protect?

One answer is that despite numerous US military checkpoints, the insurgents know that this is a "target rich" route that is the heart of military and contractor supply routes, and they continue to challenge every security measure devised."

I hope this helps Jimmo. :)

Thanks for the info Mermaid.
I`m sure you`d really have to be there to know what their highway system must be like. Like their way of life , I`m sure it`s nothing like ours!
