The National Institutes of Health has just released the results of a $200 million research study completed under a grant to Johns Hopkins.
The new study has found that women who carry a little extra weight live longer than the men who mention it.

Maryland Gov O'Malley called it a "freeloader penalty" and commented on Walker nicely on FacetheNation http://youtu.be/ZAsfrqDez_0

Obamacare may not be the answer to "all" of the health insurance problems, but it's a start that could grow for the better if the two sides could actually come together.

Mitt's favorable opinion of Israel's Health care system in his own words:
“Do you realize what health care spending is as a percentage of the G.D.P. in Israel? Eight percent,” he said. “You spend eight percent of G.D.P. on health care. You’re a pretty healthy nation. We spend 18 percent of our G.D.P. on health care, 10 percentage points more. That gap, that 10 percent cost, compare that with the size of our military — our military which is 4 percent, 4 percent. Our gap with Israel is 10 points of G.D.P. We have to find ways — not just to provide health care to more people, but to find ways to fund and manage our health care costs.”

FYI:
Health care in Israel is universal and participation in a medical insurance plan is compulsory. Health care coverage is administered by a small number of organizations, with funding from the government. All Israeli citizens are entitled to the same Uniform Benefits Package, regardless of which organization they are a member of, and treatment under this package is funded for all citizens regardless of their financial means. Generally, health care in Israel is of high-quality and is delivered in an efficient and effective manner. Partly as a result of this, at an overall 82 years, Israelis enjoy the fourth-longest life expectancy in the world as of 2012.

In Mitt's defense he praised Israel last week so by now with the help from his friends he's probably changed his mind (retroactively of course)!

I gather, this starts in 2014. If people want the federal government to cover stuff, that cash has to come from someplace. So that means taxes, and the tax required to cover people with preexisting conditions to get insurance under the Affordable Care Act will cost any person with insurance $63 per year.

I think the USA is #38 because we are overweight and lazy here for the most part; drink, smoke, do not watch our cholesterol levels, eat 3x the normal portion size, take less vacations and on and on. Europeans walk and ride bikes, eat a healthy diet, rarely anything pre packaged or fast food, and general attitude and family life is everything. They even take the traditional "siesta" every afternoon where everything shuts down a few hours each around the mediterranean areas. Even though they have a bad economy now in some areas, they tend to be "happier and more social" than we are, and I think that is the underlying key to longevity. If you notice people that live past 80, they are happy people...just my opinion.
As far as Obamacare, what a joke this is and will bankrupt our country. It takes the younger people to pay in to take care of the old, and do not see that happening. Wait until all who signed up try to collect, and how long it takes for Drs. to get paid. Curious to see how this all unfolds.

the problem is "For Profit" healthcare. Hospitals are a buisness. Buisness is for profit.

Absolutely it is for a profit. Medical education and college tuitions are not free in this country. How can we expect new Drs. to pay all their own education for 8 years of medical school, malpractice insurance and work for non for profit wages? Until the country offer's free college (also like in Europe) Drs., hospitals need to make a profit, as it is a business.
Socialized free medicine has countries where college education is also free and quality of healthcare not nearly as good as in this country.

Renee you do realize a lot of people make a LOT of money working for non-profit organizations correct? Just because an organization is non-profit doesn't mean it can't afford to pay employees well.

Hospitals could be run a lot more like our utilities are, where a state board has to approve price increases, which means they must be justified. Such a system could help roll in spending, etc. Not saying this is a good idea, it's just an example of a different way of doing things and the doctors could still get paid.
